5K Race / 1 Mile Fun Run / Walk

Register Today!

The Garrettsville SummerFest and the Friends of Melana Foundation (www.stopkidscancer.org) is planning the 3rd Annual 5k Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.  It will be held on June 30th, in downtown Garrettsville at 9:00 AM. Come out and support a great cause.  All proceeds from the event go towards research for the most dreaded childhood disease, glioma brain cancer.  Currently research for this disease is grossly underfunded. Race registration can be made on-line at www.summerfest5k.eventbrite.com.  Walkers are welcome to participate in both events.  Participants are encouraged to obtain pledge donations.  Pledge forms can be obtained on the website and all pledge monies can be turned in the day of the event.

Dodge Fundraiser for Crestwood Bands

A Dodge fundraiser to benefit Crestwood Bands will be June 1st at the Crestwood All Band Family Picnic, between 12:30 and 4:30 pm. With your help, we can earn thousands of dollars in 3 ½ hours! It’s fun! It’s easy! It’s fast! Drives take less than 5 minutes on a short course. No sales pressure! Event will be in the Crestwood High School Parking Lot. The whole community is invited to participate, anyone 18 or over, with a valid driver’s license, can join in. Ganley Dodge of Aurora will bring new Dodge vehicles to the school and volunteer their time to help during the fundraiser. Crestwood Bands will earn $20 from Dodge for every person who takes a brief test drive and completes a short survey

Girl Scout Spaghetti Dinner will be held on June 1 from 4:30-7 pm at the Claridon Town Hall, 13930 Mayfield Rd., Claridon at the corner of Claridon-Troy Rd. and Rt. 322. Heirloom Vegetable Plant & Flower Sale will take place on June 1st, from 9am- 3pm; At the Christ Lutheran Church, located at : 10827 SR-44, Mantua, Ohio.  Event is sponsored by the Mantua Rotary Club Farmers Market.  Squash, peppers, eggplants, 12 varieties of tomatoes and more.  A few of the plants can be traced to Monticello and around the world.  Other items will be for sale, including Debbie’s homemade fabulous cinnamon rolls.  Other vendors will be there to sell farmers market items. Fat Muckett Canoe Cruise

June 2 

Paddle with naturalist Bob Faber on the serene upper Cuyahoga River near Burton June 2nd from 10am-1pm. The slow moving state scenic river winds through extensive wetlands and bottomland forests near Russell Park in Geauga County. Wildlife of the area includes river otters, beaver, mink, sandhill cranes, bald eagles, prothonotary warblers and the extremely rare jewel wing and the elusive fat musket. Free Water Testing / Battery Disposal

Concerned Citizens Ohio/Shalersville’s  Free Water Monitoring Day will take place this month on Sunday, June 2, at our brand-new permanent location,  the Eagles Club, which is located right across from the K Mart on Route 14 in Streetsboro, at 9052 State Route 14.  The class to be held during this month’s monitoring is an “Open Forum: Questions and Issues with Fracking, Pipelines, and Related Issues.”  Please park in the back of the building and look for the open door (and the signs!) Let’s Build a Community

Let’s Build Community at the Center.  Open community days at the gymnasium at the old Mantua Center School, 11741 Mantua Center Rd. (just north of SR 82) will continue, but now on the first and third Wednesdays (changed from Tuesday) of each month, with reduced hours of 10am to 4 pm.  Potluck lunch at noon.  Meet with friends, or make some new ones.  Play cards or other games, learn quilt piecing or crochet.  Help work a challenging new jigsaw puzzle which will be started on May first.  Not just for seniors!  Folks of all ages are invited, but youngsters must have supervision.

Little Tigers Golf Outing

The Newton Falls Little Tigers will be holding their annual golf outing on June 8, 2013.  The four-man scramble will be an 8:00 shotgun held at the Olde Dutch Mill golf course. Home Canning Workshop

June 8

The Portage County Gardeners will once again host a series of four Saturday morning workshops that are open to the public. “Home Canning” will be the topic for the first workshop on June 8 at 10am. Participants will learn the proper way to can vegetables, fruits, pickles, jams and jellies using the hot water bath method or the pressure canning technique. A 100 page canning book with recipes is included in the $20.00 cost of the workshop. The class is limited to 25 and will be held at the Portage County Gardeners’ Center, 5154 S. A summer kids’ event called Kingdom Rock will be hosted at Friendship Alliance Church from June 10th-14th. “Supper at the Center”

On the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm, March thru November, the Mantua Center Christian Church (on the township green at the corner of SR82 and Mantua Center Road)  invites all who would enjoy the fellowship of a shared meal to “Supper at the Center.”  (This event broadens the invitation to meal for seniors formerly known as “Over the Hill.”)  Menu varies, but is a full meal, usually including a selection of homemade pies for dessert.  No reservations required.  A donation basket is passed, with any excess above expenses going to charitable causes selected by the women’s group of the church.

Ride and Raise funds for our local Veterans.

Motorcyclists can participate in a 2-hour scenic ride through beautiful Geauga County on Sunday, June 30, 2013. The ride starts at Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, OH (14373 N Cheshire St) and will be led by Sheriff Dan McClelland and his dog, “Midge”. Newton Falls AMVETS Post 112 Golf Outing will be held July 13 at Riverview Golf Course.  Call or stop in the Post for sign-up sheets and all information.

Erie Brass Quartette

July 19

The Erie Brass Quartette (Big Band Sounds) will perform from   7-10 pm at City Park – Jaycee Pavilion, Intersection of Center Street and Quarry Street, Newton Falls on July 19.

 

Golf Tournament

July 21

17th Annual Yoder Brothers Memorial Invitational Golf Tournament will take place at, Fowlers Mill Golf Course in Chesterland on July 21. Breakfast & registration begins at 8:30am, shotgun start 10:30am and dinner at 5pm. Men and Women 4-player team scramble. Guest speaker, prizes, raffle & silent auction. Tennis Camp

Tennis Camp with Ravenna Parks & Recreation held August 5 to 8 (rain date is August 9). From 8:30-10:30am for ages 5 to 15 years. Fee is $27.00 for city taxpayers and $32.00 for non-city taxpayers.  Please bring a water bottle. Min 12 – max 30.  Deadline to register is August 2. After August 2 there is a $10 late fee. Tour De Metz

The Metzenbaum Foundation & The Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities presents: TOUR DE METZ! This events will be held Aug 10th at The Metzenbaum Center is located at; 8200 Cedar Road, Chesterland. Ride registration is at 8am, ride begins at 9am. The ride is a 15 or 30 mile loop through scenic Geauga County. Cost is $30 per rider or $75 for a family of three or more. Rest stops, refreshments, and SAG support available.
