The Hiram College JH Barrow Field Station will once again play host to this series of Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland bird walks which begin at 7:30am. Join local naturalist Eric Faber and other birding enthusiasts at 7:30am for a casual walk around the Field Station. These hikes are for beginners and experts alike. The City of Newton Falls will be conducting its Annual Citywide roadside and park Clean-up Day on May 4 at 9am. Demonstration of Pastel Painting

The Trumbull Art Gallery is featuring a talk by Karen Ferrick, a member of the Pittsburgh Pastel Artist League, who will demonstrate the art of creating a pastel painting from sketch to finished piece at 1:30pm. Her talk will last about 1 1/2 hour. Karen has been an art teacher in the Burrell School District for the last 14 years, and started working with pastels 8 years ago. She has taught pastel workshops in Pittsburgh, and given many demonstrations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. She looks forward to sharing her love of pastels with you. Admission is free.
Greg Bartholomew’s Comic Book Art Collection

Greg Bartholomew will share his comic book art collection with the public in a show being held at the Trumbull Art Gallery. The featured artists are Alex Ross, known for his realistic paintings of classic comic book characters, and Barry Windsor Smith, who broke into the mainstream comic book industry as the artist of Conan the Barbarian. His style eventually moved into a dynamic and realistic style more aligned with Italian Renaissance. The opening reception will be held May 4, from 5-7 pm. Admission is free
Newton Township Scrap Tire Drive

Newton Township will host a scrap tire collection drive on Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th, 2013 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. on the grounds of the Newton Township Administration Building, 4410 Newton Falls-Bailey Road. Tires will be accepted from residents of Newton Township only and ID is required. No tractor tires or tires with rims will be accepted, and residents are limited to 4 tires. Poet Jeanne Bryner to Speak at Reed Memorial Library

On May 5 at 2 p.m., poet and Nurse Jeanne Bryner will be at Reed Memorial Library, sharing selections from her book of poems, titled Smoke. Bryner has been awarded an American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award for this collection of poems, which centers on her life and work as an emergency room Nurse in Warren, OH. Smoke also received 2nd place honors in the Public Interest/Creative Writing category from the American Journal of Nursing. Copies of Smoke will be available for purchase/ signing. This is a good opportunity to see and learn about the area’s spring wild flowers including the rare red trillium. Tree ID will be covered and include Canadian Hemlock and Yellow Birch, both associated more with colder northern climates. Wear sturdy footwear for rocky and uneven terrain. Rain or shine. Motorcyclists can participate in a 2-hour scenic ride through beautiful Geauga County on Sunday, June 30, 2013. The ride starts at Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, OH (14373 N Cheshire St) and will be led by Sheriff Dan McClelland and his dog, “Midge”. Registration opens at 8:00am and the $25.00 per motorcycle fee includes breakfast. Onsite food vendor and other fun activities will be available upon return to the fairgrounds.
