Special Arbor Day Ceremony

This year, on Arbor Day, April 26, the Mantua Village Garden club will hold a special memorial ceremony for a former, long time club member, Sally Brugmann, and plants a tree, in her honor, on the Mantua Memorial Walkway. The Memorial Walkway is located in front of Crestwood High School, and was started by the club in the early 60’s, to honor Garden Club & community members, by planting a tree in their honor. In a setting among some of the largest trees in the state, the 250 acre Poland Municipal Forest southeast of Youngstown plays host each spring to thousands upon thousands of wild bluebells and other spring wildflowers. The forest floor is literally awash with a carpet of bluebells, dabs of red and white trilliums and a haze of marsh marigolds; the artistry of nature in all its glory. Poet Jeanne Bryner to Speak at Reed Memorial Library

Demonstration of Pastel Painting

The Trumbull Art Gallery is featuring a talk by Karen Ferrick, a member of the Pittsburgh Pastel Artist League, who will demonstrate the art of creating a pastel painting from sketch to finished piece at 1:30pm. Her talk will last about 1 1/2 hour. Karen has been an art teacher in the Burrell School District for the last 14 years, and started working with pastels 8 years ago. She has taught pastel workshops in Pittsburgh, and given many demonstrations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. She looks forward to sharing her love of pastels with you. Admission is free.
Greg Bartholomew’s Comic Book Art Collection

Greg Bartholomew will share his comic book art collection with the public in a show being held at the Trumbull Art Gallery. The featured artists are Alex Ross, known for his realistic paintings of classic comic book characters, and Barry Windsor Smith, who broke into the mainstream comic book industry as the artist of Conan the Barbarian. His style eventually moved into a dynamic and realistic style more aligned with Italian Renaissance. The opening reception will be held May 4, from 5-7 pm. Admission is free

Amvets Post #112 Auxiliary Breakfast will be May 19 from 9am-noon at Amvets Post #112, 37 W. Broad St. in Newton Falls. Menu includes: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, pancakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, toast. Drinks include: coffee, tea and juice. Little Tigers Golf Outing

The Newton Falls Little Tigers will be holding their annual golf outing on June 8, 2013. The four man scramble will be an 8:00 shotgun held at the Olde Dutch Mill golf course. The price is $65.00 per person and will include lunch, dinner, and beverages. Prizes will be given on all holes. Autism 5k and walk

Akron’s Autism 5k and Walk, formerly Akron Walks for Autism, is the Autism Society of Greater Akron’s premier fundraising and autism awareness event. Money raised stays local to support individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who support them. The event will be held on June 15 at Lock 3 in downtown Akron. The Autism Society of Greater Akron provides vital programs and services to families living with autism in Summit, Stark, Wayne, Portage and Medina counties and is part of the Autism Society of Ohio. The Girard Historical Society is teaming up with TNT for an evening of “Always Patsy Cline” on June 12 at 6 pm for social hour and 7 pm show. The evening will also include refreshments, Basket Raffle and 50/50 raffle. The show combines country classics with a hilarious story about three gutsy gals who are determined to better their lives and follow their dreams to Nashville. The tickets are $20.00. The Rotary Club of Mantua is sponsoring the 9th annual Farmers Market. The location will be at the Christ Lutheran Church parking lot at 10827 S.R 44, in Mantua. The market will run every Saturday, from June 22 – October 12. The hours will be 9am-12:30pm. The cost is $5.00 if you sign up for 8 week-ends or more. For those who sign up for less the cost is $7.00. This year the produce venders will specialize in Heirloom vegetables and flowers. Motorcyclists can participate in a 2-hour scenic ride through beautiful Geauga County on Sunday, June 30, 2013. The ride starts at Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, OH (14373 N Cheshire St) and will be led by Sheriff Dan McClelland and his dog, “Midge”. Registration opens at 8:00am and the $25.00 per motorcycle fee includes breakfast. Onsite food vendor and other fun activities will be available upon return to the fairgrounds.
