The Crestwood High School Class of 1973 is planning its 40th class reunion. The reunion will be held Labor Day Weekend. We are in the process of forming a mailing list of all class members. TAG’s 4th Annual Juried Photo Show. Our largest show yet, this show features beautiful photographs from names you will recognize from past shows, as well as some you won’t. Out of 149 entries, 83 were selected for the judging, and are currently hanging in the Trumbull Art Gallery. Of the additional entries, 58 are being shown in the Nissen Gallery at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The pictures may be viewed between noon and 4 pm at TAG. Admission is free.

Health Department to hold first annual Open House

What do clean drinking water, safe foods, and immunizations have in common? Come find out! The Portage County Health Department would like to invite the community to its first annual Open House to be held on April 2 from 3-6 pm. This event will take place at the Portage County Health Department located in the administration building at 449 South Meridian Street, Ravenna. Traveling out of the country this summer? “We will be holding a How to Stay Healthy While Traveling presentation during the open house. This will allow people who will be traveling out of the country this summer the opportunity to gain education on safe traveling without the cost,” says Rosemary Ferraro, Director of Nursing. The cost of a travel consultation is usually $50 for Portage County residents. Immunizations will be scheduled during adult clinic Tuesday’s 8-10am. Cost of immunizations varies. The presentation will be given at 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The Open House is free and refreshments will be provided. An emergency preparedness kit will be awarded as a door prize. Activities for the entire family will include blood pressure checks, hand washing demonstrations, a ground water presentation, travel education, and a chance to win a prize. Mantua Village Garden Club Meeting

The Mantua Village Garden Club, which wants to promote the love and knowledge of gardening, among amateurs, and to aid in the protection of native plants, trees, and to encourage civic planting, invites you to join them at their next meeting. This year, the meetings are scheduled to be held on the first Mondays of the month, at noon, including pot luck luncheons (unless otherwise noted), at the homes of its members. The next meeting will be on April 8, at the home of Carol Fenrich. After lunch, and the business meeting, the members will be carpooling out to Eagle Creek Wholesale, on Asbury Rd., for a tour. April is the month when all of their spring flowers are in, and blooming, at their greenhouse, and promises a glorious visual display, which will get us itching to get out to our gardens.
The programs in place for 2013 are full of great gardening information, food and fun. The club is also planning its annual plant sale for May 18th. Plant Sale
May 11
The Perennial Gardeners are holding their annual plant sale, May 11, rain or shine, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Chester Town Hall parking lot. The popular sale features annuals, hanging baskets, herbs and hundreds of perennials, many of which have been raised by club members. Knowledgeable club members will be happy to assist you in choosing the appropriate plants for your gardening needs. Profits from the sale enable the club to continue planting and caring for the bandstand and corner park at Routes 306 and 322, offer scholarships to horticultural students, present educational programs at each monthly meeting and support many other gardening activities in the community.
Ravenna Summer Fest

Autism 5k and walk
June 15
Akron’s Autism 5k and Walk, formerly Akron Walks for Autism, is the Autism Society of Greater Akron’s premier fundraising and autism awareness event. Money raised stays local to support individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who support them. The event will be held on June 15 at Lock 3 in downtown Akron. The Autism Society of Greater Akron provides vital programs and services to families living with autism in Summit, Stark, Wayne, Portage and Medina counties and is part of the Autism Society of Ohio.
