Portage County District Library Announces Holiday Hours
All offices and branches of Portage County District Library will be closed on the following dates (in observance of the holiday season): December 24, 25, 26, and 31; January 1 and 2.  Visit the Portage County District Library online at www.portagelibrary.org for additional information on library programs and services, including downloadable eBooks and audiobooks. 

Quilting For The Homeless
First Thursday Of Month
You are invited to join the ladies of the Windham Church of Christ to make quilts for the homeless. We meet the first Thursday of the month from Noon to 2 pm in the fellowship hall of the church, 9837 Wolf Road. Anyone who wants to share their quilitng experience, or who wants to learn, is invited. RFC Looking For Adult Basketball Players
Any adults interested in playing basketball can call Renaissance Family Center and leave your name and number for Teddy or show up at 6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Renaissance Center 9005 Wilverne Dr. Windham.

Hiram Fire Association Fund Raiser
Through Jan 1
The Hiram Fire Association is selling raffle tickets. First prize is a Polaris Sportsman 500 HO 4-wheeler or $4,500 cash. Second prize is a 32” flat screen tv or $200 cash. Third prize is $50 cash. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from any Hiram firefighter or by calling 330 569-9826. The drawing will be held on Jan 1st.

Bingo at St. Michael Church
Thursdays
Bingo every Thursday night in the parish hall at St. Michael Church, 9736 East Center Street, Windham. Games start at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Holiday Bake Sale

The New Hope Baptist Church will be holding a bake sale in front of Sparkle Market on Friday, Dec 23 at 10 am. All proceeds go to the NHBC Vacation Bible School and Community Outreach Programs.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
Dec 24
Christmas Eve Candlelight Services will be held at First Baptist Church, 2640 South Canal Street, Newton Falls.  There will be a 5:00 PM and a 7:00 PM service.  Both services will include traditional Christmas carols and hymns, a message and a congregational candle lighting.  Additional information may be found at www.fbcnewtonfalls.com.

Candlelight Christmas Service

The First Congregational Church of Freedom will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 pm on Dec 24th. This service will include the lighting of candles in the original church candelabra. The church is located at the intersections of SR 88 and 303 in Freedom Twp.

Harvest Point Candlelight Service

Harvest Point Church, located at 6100 Tod Ave., Lordstown, Ohio, hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6pm on Saturday December 24th, 2011. Please come and join with us for a time of celebrating the coming of Jesus Christ. We will sing carols, hear the Christmas story and have a candle lighting ceremony. This is a family friendly event for people of all ages. All are welcome!

St. Ambrose Christmas Eve Mass

Burton Congregational Church Holiday Worship Services
Dec 24 & 25
Two Christmas Eve services will be held at Burton Congregational Church on December 24. The first, at 6:30 p.m., will be a comtemplative service for those who might find the merriment of a standard service difficult. It will have a more subdued tone and communion will be celebrated. A Festival Candlelight Service will take place at 8:00 p.m. This will be a traditional candlelight service for families and will feature lots of music. All are welcome to attend. On Christmas morning, December 25, the church will have a brief service of Scripture readings combined with favorite Christmas carols at 10:30 a.m. The Burton Congregational Church is located at 14558 West Park Street, on the square in Burton Village. Windham Hot Stove Board Meeting

Windham Hot Stove will hold a board meeting on Dec 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Windham Township Hall. The Hot Stove board is seeking new members to join for the 2012 season. We have a variety of positions available that need filled. We need more board members to ensure the continuation of Windham Hot Stove as an organization. All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner

Please join the Nelson-Garrettsville Community Cupboard for an All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner and Chinese Auction on Friday, December 30th. Dinner will be served from 4:00-8:00pm at the Nelson Community House. The menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, homemade rolls, dessert and beverage. The admission price includes 1 free ticket for the Chinese Auction. The cost is $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 3-12 years old and children under 3 years old eat free. All proceeds to benefit the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard to further our mission to “Shut The Door On Hunger” in our community. Celebrate the end of the year with great food for a worthwhile cause.

Community New Year’s Eve Party

Hike the BLT

Hike Portage Park District’s newest trail: the Berlin Lake Trail. The BLT cuts through part of an 8,000 acre state wildlife area, crosses a section of Berlin Reservoir, and provides unparalleled views of a remote section of the lake and wildlife area. Bald eagles, ospreys, herons and a variety of waterfowl are observable from the converted railroad bridge and crossing over the lake. The hike begins at 10:00am. New Year’s Eve 5K

Advanced Rehabilitation’s annual New Year’s 5K run/walk through Mantua will take place on 12/31/11 at 10am. The cost is $5. This is an event to celebrate the New Year in a healthy way and jump start your new year’s resolutions. The event will start and end at Advanced Rehabilitation and Health Specialists in Mantua. Registration will begin at 9:00am the day of the race with the race starting at 10am. There is no need to pre-register. New Year’s Eve Trip

      What are you doing New Year’s Eve? St. Anselm Young of Heart invite you to join them on a bus trip to Cambridge, Ohio, for a Dickens Victorian Christmas. Stroll down Main St. to see 80 life-size Dickens Scenes. See the great Courthouse Music & Light Show and much more. Lunch and dinner are included. We will have our own private New Year’s Eve party at the hotel.  After breakfast on New Year’s Day we’ll head over to Wheeling Island Casino, then see the Festival of Lights at Oglebay on the way home. Burton Library Book Sale

Parents Without Partners Dance

On Jan 7th the Portage County Chapter #600 of International Parents without Partners will have it’s monthly dance from 7:30 pm – 11:30 pm at the Kent VFW Post 3703 in Kent. Music will be by dj Mel. The Rarest Forest Around

Visit the White Pine Bog Forest near Burton, considered by ecologists to be the rarest forest in Ohio. Some of the towering pines may be up to 300 years old. Surrounded by wetlands and adjacent to Snow Lake, the forest is a rare remnant of the original Ohio landscape. Owned by The Nature Conservancy, special permission is required to access the property as it is not open to the general public. The hike begins at 10:00am.
