The JAG All Sports Boosters are hosting their 2nd annual Christmas
Raffle. This year there will be 3 prize categories: 1st Apple iPad 2,
2nd Apple iPod touch, and 3rd $100 cash. The drawing will be held
on Dec. 16, 2011 at 1/2time of boys varsity BB game. Tickets can
be purchased at the program booth during the remaining varsity

Quilting For The Homeless
First Thursday Of Month
You are invited to join the ladies of the Windham Church of Christ to make quilts for the homeless. We meet the first Thursday of the month from Noon to 2 pm in the fellowship hall of the church, 9837 Wolf Road. Anyone who wants to share their quilitng experience, or who wants to learn, is invited. Letters From Santa
Would you like your child to receive a personalized letter and special ornament from Santa? Simply send your child’s name, age, address and sex of child along with your payment of $9 to: Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre, P.O. Box 541, Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 Attn: Santa’s Workshop. NUMC Christmas Cookie Sale

Windham Toys For Tots Collection

 Each year, the Windham Toys for Tots organizes a food drive for the community members in need from Freedom, Garrettsville, Nelson and Windham.  Your monetary gift will provide necessity and joy to those families that have fallen on hard times. If you are interested in donating, please issue your check to Windham Toys for Tots and mail it by December 16th to Guy Pietra , 8219 Clover Lane, Garrettsville, Ohio 44231. Your donation is tax deductible.  As always, a follow-up letter will be sent to all those able to provide a donation to update you on the success of our effort.   

“Focus on Fiber”

Come to the Trumbull Art Gallery in Warren and see the juried exhibit “Focus on Fiber - A Tribute to the Fiber Artist”.  This is a juried exhibition for the artist who creates original works of art using traditional or non-traditionl needle and fiber arts techniques.  The exhibit can be seen from noon-4 pm Tue. - Sat. at 196-198 E Market St. in Warren.  Admission is free.

“A Christmas Carol”

Kent Trumbull Theatre is proud to present “A Christmas Carol”.  This adaptation written by Paul Kimple and direct by Patricia M. Fagen will be presented  on Dec 9-11, 16-18 at Kent Trumbull Theatre 4314 Mahoning Ave NW in Warren.  Performances will be at 7:30 pm on Fri & Sat and 3 pm on Sundays.  Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and children, $5 for groups of 10 or more.

Live Nativity

Live Nativity complete with live animals featuring Rupert the camel will be held Dec 10th from 5 pm-8 pm at the Hambden Congregational Church, 13840 GAR Hwy (Rt 6), Chardon, Oh 44024. Lasagna Dinner & Dance

Portage County Chapter #600 of International Parents without Partners will have a lasagna dinner and dance on Dec 10 at Kent VFW Post #3703. Dinner will be from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. with the dance from 7:30 pm – 11:30 pm. The dinner and dance are open to the public and all are invited to attend. G-Men Youth Basketball Scotch Doubles

Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Open House

Habitat for Humanity of Portage County is recruiting individuals who are willing to volunteer their time and energy to serve on active committees helping with the operations and various functions of the organizations.  Individuals interested in selecting and working with Habitat families, oversight of construction days, marketing, fundraising and more are needed to assist the non-profit fulfill its goals. Palmyra Breakfast With Santa

Palmyra Fireflies are hosting their 5th annual Breakfast w/Santa on December 10th from 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Santa is arriving  at 8:00 on a fire Truck. Breakfast will include all you can eat pancakes, sausages and beverages along with one 4x6 picture w/Santa per family. Additional pictures can be purchased for $2. Santa will have a small gift for all kids that attend. Breakfast cost: Adults $5, Kids 3- 10 years old $3, and kids under 3 are free.  We will also be collecting non-perishable items to give to our adopted families for $1 off your meal.

St William Winterfest Craft Show

There will be a Winterfest craft show on Dec 10 from 10 am – 3 pm at St. William Parish, 5411 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren. The show will feature over 70 select craftspeople from the area. Come and finish your Christmas shopping and have lunch. Ethnic foods pirohi, halushki, wedding soup as well as other foods will be available to purchase. Take out is also available. 

Hard Hats & Heels

Habitat for Humanity of Portage County is teaming up with the Kent State University’s School of Fashion and Design for “Hard Hats & Heels Fashion Show.”  Over 125 students have created unique fashion designs using building materials purchased at the ReStore and will have their designs modeled on the runway.  A judged contest, this evening will be filled with creativity, a full runway show, and awareness for housing issues in Portage County.  Tickets are $7 and are available at the ReStore: 1510 S. Water St. Kent OH.  Tickets will also be available at the door.  This event is located at the Kent State Ballroom at the KSU Campus.  Doors open at 7pm.  Show begins at 8pm. Habitat for Humanity Homeownership Information Session

Habitat for Humanity of Portage County is currently looking for interested individuals and families who would like to fulfill their dream of owning their own home.  Openings for home ownership are available for current building projects.  An informational session about Habitat home ownership will be held on December 11th at the Habitat Office Conference Room located at 6630 Cleveland Road in Ravenna Township. The session will begin promptly at 2:00 PM. Families are chosen without respect to age, gender, sexual preference, disability, race, religion or national origin. Persons interested in attending the November orientation are encouraged to call the Habitat Office at 330-296-2880 or email at office@habitatofportage.org to advise the staff that they are coming to the orientation session. 

Holiday Shopping Night

Just for you ladies… holiday shopping event will be held on Dec 12 at Faces Down Under banquet center featuring popular vendors for your gift giving. Door prize drawings and holiday favors. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Church Mouse Giving Tree & the NF Backpack Program.

Cardinairs Christmas Concert

The Annual Cardinaires Christmas Concert and Luncheon Buffet will be held on December 13th, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Grandview Restaurant, 13404 Old State Road, Middlefield.  Tickets are $20 each, and include the Cardinaires’ performance and buffet luncheon of Chicken Marsala, potatoes, vegetable, beverage and dessert.  This is a beautiful way to start the Christmas Season.  You can call in to save your place in the audience at 440-632-5705, leave your name, phone number and how many are in your party.  You may send checks made to Middlefield Chamber of Commerce, to P.O.Box 801, Middlefield, Ohio 44062 - $20 each person.  Any proceeds from this concert will go toward the Middlefield Chamber Scholarship Fund and a donation will also be given to the Cardinaires.

Rockin’ For A Reason benefit concert will be held Dec 15th, at The Outpost, 4962 SR 43 in Kent, OH, starting at 6 PM. The all-ages show features bands: Carousel Kings, Maddie Finn, Muffinslap, Lovelikeviolence, Grlz Nite and The Knickers. All proceeds from the concert will benefit programs of Townhall II. Benefit Shower for Fire Victims

Friends and Family invite you to a Benefit Shower for Ed and Jackie (Kramer) Zwilling who lost their home and belongings in a recent house fire.   The benefit will be held at United Church of Christ, “The Brick Chapel”, 9003 N. Observatory Open Night

Saturday December 17: Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will host a public observing night from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, weather permitting. Rounding out the year’s public programs, visitors will view the solar system’s biggest planet, Jupiter. November’s guests were treated to excellent views of the gas giant’s four Galilean Moons, the planet’s cloud bands, and the famous Great Red Spot; given clear skies those features should be seen again this night! Also to be explored is the flossy beauty of the Orion Nebula, and possibly other wonders of the night sky. The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. Chamberlain Road: A New Portage Park

Explore this undeveloped Portage Park on the headwaters of the Aurora branch of the Chagrin River. A variety of trees and biotic communities are awaiting discovery on the rolling glacial landscape. There are no formal trails, allowing for the discovery of hidden gems and woodland secrets as we explore the nooks and crannies of this closed preserve. Directions provided upon registration. All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner

Please join the Nelson-Garrettsville Community Cupboard for an All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner and Chinese Auction on Friday, December 30th.  Dinner will be served from 4:00-8:00pm at the Nelson Community House.  The menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, homemade rolls, dessert and beverage.  The admission price includes 1 free ticket for the Chinese Auction.  The cost is $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 3-12 years old and children under 3 years old eat free.  All proceeds to benefit the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard to further our mission to “Shut The Door On Hunger” in our community.
