Free Summer Food Program

Stephens Memorial Observatory Open

Saturday July 9: Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will host a public observing night from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, weather permitting. Earth’s Moon will be the feature of the night seen in astonishing detail through the Observatory’s large telescope. If conditions permit the Ring Nebula, remnant of an expired sun, will also be viewed. The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. Opening Reception for “Tattoed”

From July 10 – August 2, Trumbull Art Gallery will feature the body art and artwork of Thad Minnick.  Thad is a noted tatooist as well as a painter, and the owner of “Time Well Spent”.  His inspiration stems from nature and the world around him, and his signature style has garnered him a vast following.  The reception for Thad will be held July 9th from 6:00 – 10:00 PM.  Admission is free, and refreshments will be available.

The small Russian Orthodox Church and retreat center in Hiram Rapids has an extensive forest preserve of over 100 acres that stretches to the Cuyahoga River. “The Jesus Expedition”

A free  community dinner  will be served JUly 14, at the Brick Chapel, 9003 N. An Accidental Garden: Ravenna Rails to Trails

Join us at 8:00am to explore the profusion of weedy wildflowers along the former rail line that runs through an old industrial area of Ravenna is quite amazing and beautiful. Velvet soft mullein, exotic viper’s bugloss, and host of other vibrant flowers grow between the ties and along the rails. “The Greatest Victory”

Veteran and former POW Harry Guinther will present “The Greatest Victory” on Tuesday, July 19 at 7:00pm at the Middlefield Library. Experience one hero’s exciting role in World War II.  Mr. Guinther joined the U.S. Army Air Force shortly after his 19th birthday and trained as a radio operator and aerial gunner on a Martin B-26 Marauder aircraft. Listen to his personal stories as an Airman including his two daring escapes from imprisonment.
