Overeaters Anonymous Meetings

Overeaters Anonymous (a community of people who support each other in order to recover from compulsive eating and food behaviors) meets in person every Monday, except legal holidays, at 10:00AM in the parlor of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, 256 Mahoning Av NW, Warren, OH 44483. Farmington Senior Center Breakfasts

Mondays

The Senior Center is open for breakfast Mondays from 7a-Noon. A full menu is offered from scrambled eggs to Belgian waffles. Lunches are served T-TH from 11a-1p only $5-plate includes homemade soup or salad, entrée, dessert and beverage. Menu for the week is posted on Facebook, or just call 330-889-2733.

Al Anon Meetings

What can you do when someone close to you drinks too much? Al Anon may be able to help. We meet Tuesdays 7:30 -8:30 pm at the Renaissance Center 9005 Wilverne in Windham or Wednesday 7-8 pm at Hilltop Christian Church, 4572 Prospect in Mantua. Meetings are completely confidential.

Free Community Meal

Third Wednesday 

Christ Lutheran Church 10827 Main St, Mantua will be offering their  Free Community Meal on on the third Wednesday of the month  from 5-6:30 pm. Please come and enjoy a wonderful meal and a  chance to visit with friends. For more info call the church at 330 274 2849.

A free meal is open to all residents in Mantua, Garrettsville, Hiram, and surrounding areas. Anyone who needs to stretch their food dollars, or enjoys a homemade meal, is invited. The meal is from 5-6:30pm, the last Thursday of the month, January through October, at Mantua Center Christian Church, 4118 State Route 82 in Mantua Township. We hope to see you there for good food and conversation.

Young At Heart Meetings

Pickleball Beginner Clinics

PICKLEBALL ENTHUSIASTS! The pickleball courts are open! And to assist you in pursuing your interest, the Garrettsville Pickleball Association is sponsoring a Beginners’ Clinic every first Saturday of the month,  from 10-12, weather permitting. The Great Gathering of the Letters

1st & 3rd Saturdays 

Come add your stories, memories, or hopes for the future to the new Time Capsule. The James A. Garfield Historical Society will be installing a time capsule on September 21, 2024, to be opened in 80 years – Garrettsville’s 300th birthday.  We have archival paper and pens to better preserve your letter for future generations of Garrettsville/Nelson/Freedom.  Submit letters by visiting the Mott Building, 8107 Main St, Garrettsville – 1st and 3rd Saturdays each month from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, or look for our table at the Garrettsville Farmer’s Market June 6th & 20th. Buckeye State Black Bears

We are entering the season of increased black bear sightings in northeastern Ohio.  Join us on Thursday, June 27, at 7pm, at Hiram College’s James H. Barrow Biologic Field Station to learn about these charismatic creatures and how to be “Bear AWARE” on the trails and in the neighborhood. 11305 Wheeler Rd, Garrettsville, OH.

God Provides A Free Meal

Windham United Methodist Church will be having their monthly free meal on June 28.   The menu will be pulled pork, pasta salad and cake.  Meals are pick-up only from 4 – 5 pm at the rear  of the church.  Windham UMC is located at 9051 N. Main St., Windham, Ohio 44288.   The meal is free and open to the public.  You must register for the meal ahead of time.  Please call Sandi Fordyce at 330 697 3288.   The only information that is needed is number of people in your household, birthdates and ages.

Shalersville Historical Society Museum

July 7

The Shalersville Historical Society museum will be open the first Sunday, July 7 at 2 PM.  Because our regular monthly first Thursday meeting falls on July 4, we will hold our monthly meeting Sunday July 7 from 3 – 5 PM at the museum located at 9154 St Rt 44.  There’s been much ongoing work at our school.   From a driveby it appears there’s a new roof, siding is being prepared for painting, & new windows are being installed.  Come see all this progress first hand and share in our enthusiasm.  

The Youngstown & Cleveland Railway

Have you always been interested in the rail line that ran through Mantua Village? The Mantua Historical Society & The Shalersville Historical Society will present on Tuesday, July 9 at 7pm “An Evening & Open Discussion with Tim Benner on the Youngstown & Cleveland Railway”. Tim will also share his photos & historical documents. Tim welcomes stories, questions, & personal experiences riding the commuter train. This free event will be held in the Shalersville Town Hall  located at 9090 OH-44, Ravenna, OH 44266. It is handicapped accessible & air conditioned. Refreshments will be served.

Storybook Trail At The Field Station

The James A Barrow Field Station on Wheeler Road welcomes families to hike our new Storybook Trail.  The book, “You Are Everything,” by Sabrina Niedbalski.  The story reminds us of the power that a connection to nature can have in keeping us wholly human. 25 panels are spread across a scenic 1-mile hike to Hils Vista, with a short half-mile return hike.  The Storybook Trail will be up for the entire month.
