Hiram Community Trust: Grant Applications

Due by April 4 

Hiram Community Trust provides grant funds for projects that promote a spirit of cooperation among Hiram Village, Hiram Township, Hiram College, and James A. Garfield and Crestwood Local Schools. The purpose of these funds is to enrich life in the Hiram community by funding creative proposals for projects to support community enrichment. Grant applications are due no later than April 4. NGCC Food Donations

State Farm Agent, Shannan Jursa’s office now has a bin for drops offs to support the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard.   We will donate $10 to the Community Cupboard for every 10# of food donated.   For now, we plan to have the bin in our office through March.  Office located at 8454 Windham St., Garrettsville, OH 44231

American Legion Fish Fry

Fridays

Windham American Legion fish fry every Friday from 4:30-8pm. Cost is $9. Choice of French fries or baked potato. First come first serve with a dessert!

Pancake & Sausage Breakfasts

Burton American Legion pancake & sausage breakfasts will be Feb 8-22 on Sundays from 9-1:30. Dinner costs $9 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. For questions contact Will at 440-635-0223.

JAG Kindergarten Registration

March 24-26

Please call the James A. Garfield Elementary school to set up an appointment to register your child for Kindergarten.  The age requirement for the JAG School district is 5 years of age by Sept 30, 2015.  Registration and full screenings will take place on March 24, March 25 and March 26, 2015 at the Elementary School, these are the ONLY times we will do complete screenings.  Class lists will be finalized in May, so it is imperative that we have your child registered!   Please call the Elementary School office at 330-527-2184 for an appointment.  It is required that you bring in your child for this appointment.

Newton Falls Kindergarten Registration

February-March

Registration for children entering the Newton Falls School System for the 2013-2014 school year was held in February and the beginning of March.  If you have not yet registered your child for next year’s kindergarten, it is important that you do so immediately as there is a mandated screening time which will take place at the end of April. You do NOT need an appointment, but please only come during these times:  8:30-11:30 or 12:30-2:30.  It is not necessary to bring your child at this time.  To qualify for kindergarten, child must be 5 by August 1, 2013.  If you have any questions, you may contact the school secretary, Mrs. Howard, at 330-872-5225 (ext. 2301).

Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction

Contra Dance

A family friendly contra dance evening (similar to square dancing) will be held at the Pioneer Pavilion on Old Furnace Road, Mill Creek Metroparks on Feb 21st from 8-11pm. Teaching at 7:00. All ages welcome. No partner needed. $7 per person.

Crestwood Kindergarten Registration

TAG Open Reception

Trumbull Art Gallery is holding an Opening Reception for photo 2015, our annual juried photography event.  The show will be available for viewing from February 28 until April 10th, and will feature entries from the area’s finest photographers.  The Opening Reception will be held from 7-9 February 28th, with the winners being announced at 8.  Admission is free.

Pancake Breakfasts

The Geauga County Historical Society will hold its annual Pancake Breakfasts on the five Sundays of March 2015, beginning March 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Meals served in the Lennah Bond Activities Center on the grounds of Century Village Museum.  All-you-can-eat pancakes served with maple syrup produced from our own sugar bush.   Adults $7.00, children 5-12 $5.00, children 4 and under free.  Please mark your calendars for this delicious Geauga County tradition, come and enjoy an early breakfast, brunch, or lunch, and support your local historical society.

Christ Episcopal Craft Show

Mark your calendar for the Christ Episcopal Craft Show, March 7th from 10-4 located at 2627 Atlantic St. NE, Warren, Oh 44483.  Admission is $2.00 and parking is FREE.  There are over 50 crafters/vendors to showcase their unique items and products.   A Chinese Auction will be held with baskets full of goodies to be given away.  Delicious hot food will also be available.  There is sure to be something for everyone.  Proceeds for the craft show go toward our outreach ministries at the church.

Monthly Dance

Portage County Chapter #600 of International Parents Without Partners will have its monthly dance March 7, 7:30-11pm at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House, 109 West Ave., Tallmadge, OH. Mantua Community Center Re-Opening

Community Center at Mantua Center Re-opening Tues March 10, 9-3 and 5-7. Come with friends or make some new ones! Coffee’s ready by 9:30. Work on a picture puzzle, sit and chat, bring supplies and join the 9:30 watercolor group or ongoing sewing projects. Board games available. Potluck lunch at Noon, bring a dish to share. “In Shadows”

BioBuddies: Chicken School at Hiram College

Get your feathers on! Chicken School is back at Hiram College. Eggs Alive is the theme for this discovery program as preschool children (ages 3-5) explore chickens, eggs and observe the life inside as they incubate and hatch chicks. BioBuddies provides hands-on, developmentally appropriate educational experiences for early learners and are specially designed to develop the cognitive, social, creative and physical skills of early learners.
