On Sunday afternoons from:  2 – 3 pm, 3 – 4 pm, 4 – 5 pm, 5 – 6 pm there will be swim lessons for all levels, all hours. Lessons are 45 minutes with 15 minutes of free time at the end. Crestwood Raffle Fundraiser

The Crestwood Band Patrons and Scarlet Guard Marching Band are holding a raffle fundraiser.  The winning numbers will be drawn during the first CHS home football game on Aug 30th – Winner need not be present to claim prize. Trunk Sale

The First Church of God in Newton Falls is sponsoring a “trunk sale” during the community-wide garage sale on Aug 16th and 17th.  The sale will be set up in the parking lot at the corner of Ridge Road and Broad Street (great exposure).  The cost for a spot is $10.00.  To reserve a spot call the church at 330-872-7911.  There will also be a food stand with bratwurst sandwiches, walking tacos and other food items.

NF Community Yard Sale

During the Newton Falls Community-wide Yard Sale Aug 16-18th from 9-5 each day, the Senior Community of Newton Commons, Village & Manor will be having a yard sale at the community room near the office. People of these buildings will be able to have a table in that room, because the room is so small. No permit is needed. Tables are free and first come first serve. Garrettsville Library’s “Under The Sea” Tea Party

The Garrettsville Library, a branch of the Portage County District Library system, invites boys and girls from preschool to third grade to an “Under The Sea” Tea Party on Saturday, Aug 17 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Come dressed in your fiercest pirate outfit or your most spectacular “under the sea” princess dress. We’ll have crafts, stories, and prizes. Followed by refreshments of homemade cupcakes and punch served in the library’s beautifully decorated Captain’s lounge. Registration is required as there’s a limit of 25 children. Public Observatory Night

Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will be open from about 9:30 to 11:00 PM, Saturday, August 17. The focus of the night’s viewing will be the waxing gibbous Moon. If sky conditions and time allow, some other objects may also be seen. The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. Good sky conditions are critical to viewing; for updates and more information, see the observatory’s Web site: StephensObservatory.org or “@StephensObs” on Twitter. No reservations are required and there is no admission fee for observatory public nights. Cloudy skies at the starting time cancel the event and, in that case, the observatory will not open. There is no parking at the Observatory. Visitors may park on permissible side streets or in the nearby parking lot of Harrison’s Hideaway Convenience Store, 6821 Wakefield Road, a short distance east of the observatory.

2nd Annual Community Fall Sports Pep Rally – Sponsored by Crestwood All Sports Boosters (CASB) will be Aug 18th at 7pm at the Jack Lambert Stadium at Crestwood High School. All parents, grandparents, friends and community members are invited to attend this free event to recognize all Crestwood High School and Middle School teams as well as the youth teams in our community. Volunteers Needed: Geauga Co. Job and Family Services are looking for caring, motivated adults who would like to make a difference in a child’s life. The Volunteer Tutoring program matches volunteers with local elementary students who need help in basic reading and math. Volunteers will be required to attend training at Geauga Co. Job and Family Services and complete a criminal background check. The training will take place on Sept 12th at 9 am. Portage County Gardeners Workshop
