Garrettsville – These days families have choices when it comes to their kids’ education. We choose to have our boys attend the JAG schools where teachers not only teach the required curriculum, but go above and beyond to provide them with a quality education!
Have you ever heard of First Lego League, Snapology, The Annual Math Tournament, Camp Invention or PTO (Parent Teacher Organization)? These are just a few examples of programs that staff members volunteer their time to be a part of, run and/or oversee.
First Lego League encourages children to work together to research real world problems and develop solutions. They must also design, build and program a robot. When students go to competition they present their research to a panel of judges where they are given ratings in different categories. Students can earn awards by receiving good ratings from the judges and having their robot complete missions successfully. Whether or not students receive awards at competition, the program helps students develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills.
Snapology is a program where children learn STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) concepts through hands on, interactive learning activities. Students don’t even realize they are learning because the learning takes place through the use of LEGOs and K’NEX!

The Annual Math Tournament, sponsored by Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics, is for 5th and 6th graders. Students who make it into the tournament form teams, practice after school and compete against other schools by completing math problems. The tournament was created to promote? ?enthusiasm? ?for? ?mathematics?, recognize? ?students? ?for? ?their? ?interest,? ?perseverance,? ?and? ?talent? ?in? ?mathematics? ?and problem? ?solving, challenge? ?students? ?and celebrate? them.

Camp Invention is a week long program that takes place over the summer. Students have fun while participating in hands-on challenges that encourage creative problem solving, teamwork, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Several of our teachers volunteer their time as members of the PTO. This valuable group works hard to support the school by raising money to provide the teachers and students with supplies and programs that help enhance our kids’ education. They also provide fun social events for families in the district.

We are grateful for the education our boys’ are receiving from teachers who not only put a lot of effort into teaching during the school day, but who also volunteer their time to be a part of, run and/or oversee programs that help enhance the wonderful education they are already receiving.
