Aspire Programs 

Mondays & Wednesdays

The Portage County Maplewood Aspire Program will begin offering GED, Adult Diploma and ESOL classes at the Kent Free Library on Wednesday, January 3rd from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays during this time. Prospective students are required to first attend an orientation session prior to entering class at the Kent Free Library. Please call 330-235-0020 to schedule orientation. Orientation sessions are offered every 2 weeks throughout the year, during both the morning and evening. Overeaters Anonymous Meetings

Mondays

Overeaters Anonymous (a community of people who support each other in order to recover from compulsive eating and food behaviors) meets in person every Monday, except legal holidays, at 10:00AM in the parlor of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, 256 Mahoning Av NW, Warren, OH 44483. Please enter through the “Fellowship Hall” entrance on driveway. We look forward to meeting you! 

Farmington Senior Center Breakfasts

Mondays

The Senior Center is open for breakfast Mondays from 7a-Noon. A full menu is offered from scrambled eggs to Belgian waffles. Lunches are served T-TH from 11a-1p only $5-plate includes homemade soup or salad, entrée, dessert and beverage. Menu for the week is posted on Facebook, or just call 330-889-2733.

Free meal 1st Tuesday of the month. All are welcome to join us at Covenant Bible Fellowship at 8146 High Street, Garrettsville, from 5:30-7pm. Food, fun and fellowship.

BINGO! At St. Ambrose

1st & 3rd Tuesday

Come to St. Ambrose for Bingo, the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Doors open at 5:45pm and Early Bird starts at 6:45. Players must be 18 or over. Reasonably priced concessions. St. Ambrose is located at 10692 Freedom St., Garrettsville. Check out our Facebook page for additional information.

Young At Heart Meetings

Time for Tots

2nd Weds of Month

2nd Wednesday of each month (Sept 13, 2023 – May 8, 2024) from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Maplewood Christian Church 7300 State Route 88 in Ravenna. Come experience a safe indoor environment where children ages 2 – 5 can play, craft, enjoy music and burn energy (adults stay for fun, siblings welcome).  We will not meet if Ravenna Schools are closed. Loaves and Fishes Community Meal

A free meal is open to all residents in Mantua, Garrettsville, Hiram, and surrounding areas. Anyone who needs to stretch their food dollars, or enjoys a homemade meal, is invited. The meal is from 5-6:30pm, the last Thursday of each month through October at Mantua Center Christian Church, 4118 State Route 82 in Mantua Township. 

American Legion 674 Fish Frys

Annual Fish Frys return to the American Legion, Windham Post 674, 9960 E. Center St. Windham 330-326-3188  beginning Oct 13 through April 29, 2024.  Dinners will be held from 4pm – 7pm.  Dine in or carry out available.  Fish, Chicken or Shrimp, Baked Potato or Fresh Cut Fries and choice of two sides.  $14.00

Friends of the G’ville Library Book Sale

The Garrettsville Library’s book sale by Friends will be in the library meeting room on these dates: Members’ Preview on October 4 (2-6pm); Open to all on October 5-6 (10am-6pm) and October 7 (10am-2pm). On Saturday, fill a bag for $4 (bag provided). Membership is $5 per year, available at the door or in advance. Cash donations are welcome. Proceeds support the library directly. Shalersville Historical Society Meeting

Shalersville Historical Society’s monthly meeting will be Thursday, October 5 at 7 PM at the museum located at 9154 St Rt 44.  Our meetings are open to the public and all are welcome.

Great news!  Shalersville’s one room school # 3 has been successfully relocated to the museum’s complex at 9154 St Rt 44.  It is resting comfortably on its new foundation and features a new roof.  Interested viewers may drive by to take a look after 4 PM when the Bio Med School has been dismissed.  School # 3 was previously located on the east side of St Rt 44 north of Streeter Rd.

Last Sausage/Steak Trailer of Year

The Windham Lions Club will have their last sausage/steak trailer of the season October 6th and 7th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday across from Circle K.  They will also be collecting soft plastics Saturday 10 a.m. to noon.

RCCA Rummage Sale

Hiram RCCA will host a Rummage Sale on Friday & Saturday,  Oct 6-7 from 9am-4pm at 

6337 Winchell Road, Hiram. All profits benefit the historic Hiram RCCA building!

Garrettsville Eagles on Water Street will be hosting a Swiss Steak Dinner on Oct 7 from 4-7:30  Cost is $12  Carryout available.

Breast Cancer Fundraiser

We will be having a Breast cancer fundraiser for Patricia White, of Garrettsville, on October 7th from 3pm to 8pm at the Windham Community Center, located at 9647 E. Center Rd. There will be a basket raffle, 50/50, and dinner. Adults $8; kids under 8 $4. 

Fundraiser For Brandon Bailey’s Family

A fundraiser will be held at Shortie C’s Bar and Grill to support Jessica Myers and her three children. The event, organized by friends of Brandon Bailey and Jessica, will run from 1pm to midnight and include activities like basket raffles, a 50/50 draw, and bracelet sales. 

Pickleball Court Grand Opening

Come and enjoy Pickleball and our Grand Opening of the NEW outdoor Park Avenue pickleball court on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 11 am – 2 pm, starting with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Exhibition play will begin around noon. Hotdogs will be provided and the opportunity to learn to play! Come see why pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America.

Rivers Casino Bus Trip

The Sisterhood of St. Joseph Church is organizing a casino bus trip to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, PA on Monday, October 9th. Cost: $50 per person, inclusive of $20 slot free play and a $5 food voucher. Limited handicap-accessible seating. Board the buses at St. Joseph Church, 11045 St. Joseph Blvd., Mantua, OH 44255, at 8 a.m. Return around 6 p.m. Contact Mary Ann Feddor to reserve your seat (330-842-0505). Hope you can join us. 

Freedom Twp Historical Society Program

Mark your calendars now for Freedom Township Historical Society’s next interesting and informative program.  The date is Tuesday, October 10 at 7 PM at the Freedom Community Center located at 8940 St Rt 700.  Longtime local resident Mike Paul will talk about Drakesburg and his family’s involvement with the popular Chestnut Inn located on the curve where St Rt 88 and Nichols Rd meet.  The Chestnut Inn was a very popular dance club during the depression era and beyond.  Come learn all about it!   All our programs are open to the public and anyone who loves history – especially local history.  Questions – call 330.527.7669 & LMOM.

Parkman 55+ Seniors Bus Trip

We invite area seniors to help  pack the bus by joining us November 7 to attend “Christmas in the Country” production at the Amish Country Theater, 

Berlin, OH and lunch at the Amish Door Village, Wilmot, OH.  The cost is $92 per person and includes motor coach, musical and lunch. Barktober 5K Fun Run & 1 Mile Walk

Join us on October 14th at 11:00am for the Portage APL’s 6th Barktober 5K Fun Run & 1-Mile Walk! Leash up your furry friends, enjoy a run, costume contest, and fall-themed pet photos. Stick around for food, drinks, and more after the race at Rootstown Community Park/Gracie Fields, 4104 Case Ave, Rootstown. Entry fee: $30 donation to APL (includes swag bag if registered by Oct 1). Mantua Wine & Chocolate Walk

The sisterhood of St Joseph Church has partnered with the DMRC to host Mantua Wine and Chocolate Walk on Saturday, October 14th from 2:00-5:00.  Come sample wine from Ohio wineries hosted by Mantua’s businesses. Presale tickets are $25 and $30 day of walk. Tickets include wine glass, 10 wine samples, and chocolates from participating businesses.
