Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.If you are interested in volunteering, contact Veronica Williamson at 330-819-9760 or email fourwildwinds@yahoo.com.The County Clothing Center provides clothing free of charge to any Portage County resident who needs it. The Center is a program of Family & Community Services, Inc.

Crafters Wanted
The Portage County Gardeners is hosting a Craft Show on Fri. Oct.12, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. and Sat. Oct 13, 2018 from 10 a.m.-3p.m. The total fee for both days is $35.00. For a contract and payment information for 8’ table and space with or without electricity, call Helena now at 330-673-0577. We will also feature a pasta supper Fri. night and a luncheon on Sat. A Chinese auction will also be an attraction. Free parking and free admittance.

Grief Support Group
Sundays
Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about an 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Do you have a family member controlled by drugs or alcohol and don’t know where to turn? Families Anonymous might be the support group you need. Don’t face it ALONE! Men on Mondays, a men’s Bible study, is held every Monday from 6:45 – 8 pm at the Cellar Door Coffee Shop in Garrettsville. Coffee and pastry will be provided at no charge.

Garrettsville Eagles Club will be open to the public for thier June 30th steak fry from 4-7:30. Choice of a 12oz porterhouse or a 10oz strip steak for $13. There is also a grilled skinless chicken breast dinner available for $9.

Library Closed for Independence Day

All offices and branch libraries of the Portage County District Library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. With the exception of Windham Library, whose normal service hours resume on Thursday, July 5, all other branch libraries will resume their service hours on Friday, July 6.

Christ Lutheran Farmer’s Market
Begins July 7
The new season for the Mantua Farmers Market begins on Saturday, July 7, and ends on Saturday, September 29. The hours are 9 am to 1 pm. Christ Lutheran is sponsoring the Market to help repay the loan for the handicapped basement entrance. The Market is located at 10827 North Main Street, Mantua, Vendors are welcome at $5 per date. Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School will be held July 8-13 from 6:00-8:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 2640 South Canal Street, Newton Falls. The VBS is free and open to all children ages 4 years old through Grade 6. The theme this year is “Game On!” and is a sports-related them. Mantua Village Garden Club

The next meeting of the MVGC will be held on July 9th, at noon, at the home of Linda Hurd. After a light lunch, Linda and Roger Hurd will share their knowledge, and thoughts, on the advantages of planting vegetables in raised beds. A short business meeting will follow. Pricetown UMC Vacation Bible School

The Pricetown United Methodist Church, 4640 Pritchard-Ohltown Rd., Newton Falls, will be holding its annual Vacation Bible School, July 23 thru July 27, 2018, from 6pm to 8:30pm. Please join them for a week of fun and fellowship. This year’s theme is: “Moose on the Loose”. Youngsters (age 4 thru 12th grade) are invited to meet Jesus. They will enjoy Bible stories, music, games, crafts, snacks and the Country Store at the end of the week. Rolling River Rampage

“Rolling River Rampage” Vacation Bible School will be held at the Wayland Community Church, 6355 Wayland Road, Wayland from July 23 – 27. The adventure begins each evening at 6:00 p.m. sharp and lasts until 8:30 p.m. This year’s theme focuses on Isaiah 43:2. All children age 3 through those who have finished grade 6 are welcome. There is no charge to attend. Our mission this year will benefit the Portage County Foster Care program. Permaculture & Sustainable Gardening

August 4th, 9am- 12pm. PERMACULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE GARDENING. Join Portage County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers, Mary Lou Holly and Pamm McDowell as they discuss the principles of Permaculture design and creating a more holistic garden. They will give tips and advice for less weeding, attracting beneficial insect and animals using plant guilds to protect gardens, and rain water harvesting to reduce water needs. The program will also cover the importance of planting perennial vegetables, fruit, and flowers as part of embracing Permaculture and sustainability.
