Grief Support Group
Sundays
Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Recovery after Suicide Loss Support Group

If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to suicide, we invite you to attend a free monthly support group to find acceptance, information, and inspiration. The support group meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Kent Free Library located at 312 W. Main Street, Kent from 6:30-8pm. The group is sponsored by the Portage County Suicide Prevention Coalition and the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County. For more information call 330.673.1756 ext 201.

Senior Center Corn Hole Sessions

The Portage County Senior Center is continuing their Corn Hole session each Friday morning. They start playing at 10 and usually wrap up by 11:30. The game is played indoors and there are always lots of laughs, while also getting a little exercise. Seniors are welcome to join in on any Friday. Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. Drawing & Painting Classes

Interested in learning how to Draw or Paint? The Portage County Senior Center holds a free class 2 times a month to all seniors 60 and up. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced painter just looking to learn a new technique, all are welcome. The class is held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 10-11:30 and the senior center is located at 705 Oakwood St. (Floor G) in Ravenna. The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Mantua Farmers Market
Begins July 6
The Mantua Farmers Market Regular Season begins on Saturday, July 6 from 9 am – 1 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 10827 N Main Street, Mantua. Vendors fees are $5.00 per date. The church is sponsoring the markets to help finance a walkway from the lower parking lot to the basement entry. The Markets are held each Saturday until September 28. After Church Picnic

Independence Sunday July 7th will be celebrated with an after church picnic at Delightful E.C. Church located at 2473 Barcley-Messerly Rd and US 422 Southington, OH. 44470. A service of praise to God for our great nation beginning at 10:45 at the outdoor pavilion (weather permitting). The Freedom Township Historical Society will host author and historian Julie Thompson at 7 pm July 9 at the Freedom Community Center, 8940 S.R. 700. Ms. Thompson will give a presentation on her new book, The Hunt for the Last Public Enemy in Northeastern Ohio: Alvin ‘Creepy’ Karpis on His Road to Alcatraz. Ms. Thompson will autograph books, which can be purchased that night. County Club Rehab

Any Portage Seniors aged 60 and up who are interested in a potential Arts & Craft class should attend the presentation by “County Club Rehab” at the senior center on July 10th at 9:30. A rep from the company will discuss what they offer and is also interested in bringing some arts & craft classes to area seniors. She will discuss different classes she teaches, and will be open to suggestions. Plan to stick around for a friendly game of bingo at 10:30 and of course some great socialization. July 15
The Portage County Senior Center will hold their monthly “Lunch & Learn” event on Monday, July 15th at 11:30. This month’s topic is “Senior Housing & Senior Care”. All topics from how to stay in your home, to info about the variety of senior housing available will be discussed. We’ll also tackle the topic of how and when to downsize. The education is being presented by Vista Veranda in collaboration with others in the community. There will be a free lunch available for those attending, but because of limited seating, sign-up is required. To Mars And Beyond VBS

You’re invited to blast off with Maplewood Christian Church’s VBS 2019. One small step for your kids…one giant leap for God’s Kingdom! Our first VBS to land on the moon! In Killers of the Flower Moon David Grann answers many questions concerning the envy, greed and bigotry that the wealthy, oil-rich Osage tribe faced. The Portage County Senior Center will be celebrating all July-September Birthdays on Wednesday, July 17th. Senior Celebration

The Portage Senior Services Network has been diligently planning for this year’s “Senior Celebration” and has a date and location. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 10th at Underwood Hall in The Kent American Legion. This is an annual event where we celebrate and crown one senior “King” and “Queen” who goes above and beyond for their community. The committee is working to keep the ticket price at a low $10 again this year, and tkts. should be available by the week of August 5th. Nominating applications can be picked up at Home Instead Senior Care or The Portage County Senior Center. The theme is “Senior Pick of the Patch” and there will be square dancers, a luncheon, and lots of freebies and gift baskets available. Please be on the lookout for future information as it becomes available.
