Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Kindergarten Registration

The James A. Garfield School District is taking reservations for Kindergarten registration for children that will turn age 5 before August 1, 2019. Registration will take place at the Elementary on Thursday, March 21, Friday, March 22 and Monday, March 25, 2019. Grief Support Group

Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Do you have a family member controlled by drugs or alcohol and don’t know where to turn? Families Anonymous might be the support group you need. We meet every Monday (except holidays) from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at Coleman Behavioral Services, Sue Hetrick Bldg. 3922Lovers Lane/Loomis Parkway in Ravenna. For info call Peggy 330-760-7670.

Men on Mondays, a men’s Bible study, is held every Monday from 6:45 – 8 pm at the Cellar Door Coffee Shop in Garrettsville. Coffee and pastry will be provided at no charge.

Recovery after Suicide Loss Support Group

If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to suicide, we invite you to attend a free monthly support group to find acceptance, information, and inspiration. The support group meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Kent Free Library located at 312 W. Main Street, Kent from 6:30-8pm. The group is sponsored by the Portage County Suicide Prevention Coalition and the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County. For more information call 330.673.1756 ext 201.

Monthly Fundraising Dinner
3rd Friday of Month
Dinners will be served at Parkman Congregational Church in the downstairs social hall on the third Friday of every month except December. Serving times 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Price is $12.00 per meal for adults, Seniors (over 65) $10.00, children (5 – 10) $6.00, 4 and under free. Carry out is available. All profits will go to the Geauga Faith Rescue Mission. Each month will feature a different menu. Freedom Township Historical Society Meeting Cancelled

State Senator John Eklund will be meeting with the Freedom Township Historical Society officers and a few volunteers on Feb 11 to learn about the restoration project for our one-room schoolhouse on S R 303. Because of this event, there will NOT be a monthly historical society meeting on Feb 12. Our monthly meetings will resume on Tuesday, March 12 at 6:30 PM at the Freedom Community Center, 8940 S R 700.

The Women’s Auxiliary of the Mantua Knights of Columbus #3766 is hosting a casino bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh, PA, on Monday, February 18, 2019. Cost is $40 per person and will include $20 in free play, plus a $5.00 food voucher. The Casino recommends you have your Players Card and a photo ID with you.
