Get your tickets now for the JAG All Sports Booster PATIO RAFFLE! A 600 sq. ft. decorative concrete patio with fire pit, decorative seating and steps is being donated by Creative Concrete Impressions. Install will take place at the winner’s home in the spring of 2018 and winner will be drawn at the Spring JAG Night at the Races. Proceeds benefit JAG Athletic Facilities Committee. Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

Join us for the seasons final Windham Lions Club pancake breakfast on Sunday, March 4th from 8AM to 12PM at the Brick Chapel on North Main Street. The club will be teaming up with the Windham High School National Honor Society for this brunch. Proceeds from all presale tickets will be split with half going back to the honor society. Presale tickets cost $6.00. Tickets at the door are $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for children age 5-14 and children under 5 are free. Carry outs available. Brookfield Youth Basketball Tournament

Brookfield High School and the Trumbull County Basketball Officials Association will be conducting a 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graded basketball tournament for boys and girls. Vollyeball Coaches School

The 2018 Ohio Nut Growers Association featured seedling available through Portage SWCD Tree Sale is HEARTNUT. Please join the Ohio Nut Growers members Joe and Donna Cullman from Cullman’s Tree Farm in Marysville, OH to learn about growing these heart-shaped members of the walnut family. Cullman Tree Farms has a long history of growing a variety of nuts. This will be a wonderful opportunity to bring your nut growing questions to ONGA members. Swiss Steak Dinner

The Nelson United Methodist Church will be hosting their Swiss Steak Dinner at the Nelson Community House on Nelson Circle, Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 on March 10, 2018. RFC Garden Work Bee

Registration for children entering the Newton Falls Exempted Village School District for the 2018-2019 school year will be held Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 16, 2018 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. & 12:00-2:30 p.m. daily. You do NOT need an appointment, but please only come during these times. It is not necessary to bring your child at this time. Exploring Forests
March 19
This is event, on March 19 from 1-4 pm, is for those who want to learn how to assess and improve the condition of a woodlot. Observing a woodlot during the dormant season often provides a unique perspective that is helpful in planning maintenance or timber management strategies. Mark Wilthew, consulting forester with Providence Forestry, LLC, will be spending the afternoon helping participants learn some key elements of managing a woodlot.Learning to identify the trees in a woodlot is a key step in any management plan, so a good portion of our time will be spent learning the basics of winter tree ID. Growing Shiitake Mushrooms
March 21
OSU Extension Portage County will be hosting a shitake mushroom growing workshop, March 21st, 5:30-7:00pm. During this workshop, participants will learn the basics of growing shiitake mushrooms at home- including the best species of trees to use, log preparation, types of spawn, and inoculation. After a short classroom discussion, participants will drill and inoculate an oak log to take home. Participants are encouraged to bring a cordless drill and a 5/16” diameter bit if they have it, though several will be available to share. The workshop is $25 and space is limited. Pollinator Workshop

Spring is a very busy time of year for beekeepers and pollinator specialists. OSU Extension, Portage County Beekeepers, Portage County Master Gardeners, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History are teaming up on March 31st, 9:30am- 12pm with the Portage SWCD to provide an opportunity for workshop participants to hear from field professionals to learn more about the importance of bees and some of the challenges pollinators are currently facing. Celebrate Earth Day in Hiram
Everyone is invited to celebrate spring and attend the Earth Day activities on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am until 2 pm. The events will include the dedication of a new Village park, as well as a new, paved walking trail. The family-friendly festivities will include games, music, and more, so mark your calendars.
