Grief Support Group

Spaghetti Dinner

On March 16, the Kiwanis of the Western Reserve is having a spaghetti dinner featuring their famous homemade sauces, meatless marinara, and sauce with meat. The dinner includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti for $7, salad and dessert, with kids 8 and under FREE. There are gluten free pasta and take out options. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well as some other items. Serving will begin at 4:30 and concludes at 7:00. This event will be held at the Hiram Christian Church and will be co-sponsored by the Mantua Center Church for the benefit of Weekend Meals for Crestwood School District.

Exploring Forests

This is event, on March 19 from 1-4 pm, is for those who want to learn how to assess and improve the condition of a woodlot. Observing a woodlot during the dormant season often provides a unique perspective that is helpful in planning maintenance or timber management strategies. Mark Wilthew, consulting forester with Providence Forestry, LLC, will be spending the afternoon helping participants learn some key elements of managing a woodlot.Learning to identify the trees in a woodlot is a key step in any management plan, so a good portion of our time will be spent learning the basics of winter tree ID. Easter Celebration

The seniors at the Portage County Senior Center in Ravenna are celebrating the Easter season on Wednesday, March 21st. A special edition of bingo will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a luncheon at 11:30. Ham will be provided and members are asked to either bring in a dish to pass or submit a donation of $3 to help us prepare accordingly. In addition there will be a fun and interactive program following the meal entitled “Memory Box – School Days”. The program will start promptly at 12:30. Sign-ups are required for both the luncheon and the program and can be done by calling 330-297-3456 or stopping in at the center located in at 705 Oakwood St. (Ground Floor) in Ravenna.

Boy Scouts Annual Spaghetti Dinner

Boy Scout Troop 8 will hold its annual Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday March 25th, at the Newton Falls First Church of God from noon to 4:00pm. Each year the Boy Scouts of Troop 8 hold a Spaghetti Dinner to raise needed funds for camping registration and equipment and other operating fees. Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast

Don’t miss the Annual Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast featuring “All You Can Eat” buttermilk pancakes in Hughes Hall, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Josephs of Mantua. “Spring into Fitness” Trail Run

Put on your running shoes or boots as we experience the Eagle Creek State Nature Preserve, 11027 Hopkins Rd. Garrettsville, OH 44231 in a totally unique and healthy way on March 31st, 2018 9:00am- 10:00am. Please dress according to the weather as the temperatures may still be cold this time of year. The goal of this event is to combine fitness with the serenity of nature. The trails at Eagle Creek are semi-unimproved (mostly bare soil) and will afford a moderate challenge when run. Pollinator Workshop

Spring is a very busy time of year for beekeepers and pollinator specialists. OSU Extension, Portage County Beekeepers, Portage County Master Gardeners, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History are teaming up on March 31st, 9:30am- 12pm with the Portage SWCD to provide an opportunity for workshop participants to hear from field professionals to learn more about the importance of bees and some of the challenges pollinators are currently facing. Third Annual Safety Forces Craft & Vendor Show

Spring Card Party Fundraiser

The Trumbull County Republican Women’s Club will host their annual “Spring Card Party” on Saturday, April 14, 2018. The event doors will open at 11:30 a.m to 2:30 p.m. This year’s card party will be in Cortland at the Cortland Christian Church located at 130 Grove Street in Cortland. Free parking is available and the church is handicap accessible. All playing cards, scoring cards and pencils will be provided. Feel free to play board games such as Maj Jong or sit and relax with good friends for an afternoon out. Lunch is included in your ticket price. The famous salad and dessert buffet will be set up for all to partake of, with coffee, tea and water provided. Included in the day’s festivities will be a basket raffle and a 50/50. All guests will receive a door prize ticket and a chance for a great gift to take home. Tickets are $8.00 each. Everyone is invited to celebrate spring and attend the Earth Day activities on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am until 2 pm. The events will include the dedication of a new Village park, as well as a new, paved walking trail. The family-friendly festivities will include games, music, and more, so mark your calendars.
