2014 Balloon-A-Fair Seeking Parade Entries 

Parade applications are available for the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair Grand Parade. Entries should focus on this year’s theme “Ravenna Pride In The Sky”.  Parade line up begins at 7:00 am and the parade step off at 9:00 AM September 20, in beautiful downtown Ravenna. All units must have a 2014 parade application on file.  The All American Judges will be judging the parade. Parade entries are encouraged to stay for the opening ceremony when the parade winners will be announced.  For more information and deadline, call the BAF Hotline (330) 296-FAIR.

Stephens Memorial Observatory Open to Public

Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will be open to the public on July 19, from 9:30 to 11:00 PM. The featured object for the night will again be the “Ringed World,” Saturn, likely our last chance this year! Cloudy skies cancel the event! The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. For updates and more information, see the observatory’s Web site: StephensObservatory.org or “@StephensObs” on Twitter. No reservations are required and there is no admission fee for observatory public nights. Cloudy skies at the starting time cancel the event and, in that case, the observatory will not open. There is no parking at the Observatory. Visitors may park on permissible side streets near the Post Office, a short distance east of the observatory.

Hambden Grange Concerts

The Huntsburg Grange has a bandstand concert set for July 19 with Fort Huntsburg Band.  Concerts start at 6 PM, rain or shine.  If it rains, concerts are held on the town hall stage.   Bring your lawn chair.  Refreshments will be available. Parkman Community Picnic

Residents of Parkman, come enjoy an evening of fun with your neighbors and friends July 19th from 5-8pm at Overlook Park, St. Rt. 168. Streetsboro Sportsmen Association will be holding Youth Shoots July 19th & 20th. On Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm, children ages 10 to 18 will have the opportunity to learn how to safely handle firearms. On Sunday, participants from previous shoots are invited from 10 am – 2 pm to hone their skills. Shooters must have a responsible adult present at the range. Freedom Greyhound Rescue of Aurora invites you to a delicious all you can eat pancake breakfast at Sunny Lake Park (885 Mennonite Rd. Business Meeting

The Mantua Historical Society will have a business meeting on July 21st at 7:00 p.m. at the Mantua Township Hall’s lower level, located on the Historic Green at the intersection of Route #82 and Mantua Center Road.  This would be a good time for interested people to get information about the Society; membership is only $8.00 for a single and $12.00 for a family.  We meet every third Monday of the month.  Light refreshments will be served.

Calling all kids ages 4 -12!  “WEIRD ANIMALS” Vacation Bible School at Middlefield First United Methodist Church. God filled the world with a lot of crazy creatures…including you!  At “Weird Animals” Vacation Bible School, kids learn that Jesus loves them no matter what, and experience Jesus’ love in surprising and unforgettable ways!  Experience Bible adventures, untamed games, sciency-fun gizmos, snacks at the Critter Care, wild and wacky activities!  6:30 – 8:30 pm July 21-24.  Registration is required.  Parents, please arrive at 6 pm on the first evening to complete parental permission form and medical form.  VBS is free to all.  Donations will be accepted to help support our adopted Compassion International child who lives in Nicaragua. Vendors Needed!

Vendors are needed for the Annual Trunk Sale on August 2nd from 9am to 1pm at Harrington Square Mall, in Middlefield, between McDonalds and Wal-Mart.  Admission is free to shoppers.  There will be a huge variety of items, along with regular shopping hours at all the shops in Harrington Square.  We still have some vendor space available. Cost for 1 space (marked parking space) is $20 or two spaces for $35.  Vendor set up time is from 6:45 am to 9:45 am.  Bring your own set up: table, chairs and tent covering if needed.  The ground is paved so tent leg weights will be needed.  You can also just sell from your vehicle. Registration forms can be obtained by calling the Middlefield Chamber of Commerce at 440-632-5705 or by email at mccinfo@middlefieldcc.com.  You can mail your vendor fee to P.O. Pilates

Ravenna Recreation offers Pilates on Sundays and Wednesdays.  Classes will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. from August 3 to August 31 at Tower Lodge in John Tontimonia City Park.  Participants should bring a water bottle and a mat.  Class fee is $32 for city taxpayers and $37 for non-city taxpayers or an $8.00 drop in fee. This four week program will strengthen your abdominal muscles, increase your flexibility and improve your overall muscle tone and posture. Safety Town

Safety Town for incoming Crestwood Primary School Kindergarten students will take place Aug 4-8, 2014 at Crestwood Primary School. The program will run from 9:00-11:30 a.m., and your child will have the opportunity to learn how to be safe at home, at school, and at play. Harvest Point Church Luau

On August 9 Harvest Point Church (Lordstown, Ohio) will host a community Luau at the city parks at Tod Ave. and Salt Springs Rd. from noon- 3:00 p.m.  This is the fourth year that the church has sponsored this family oriented, fun-filled, FREE event which includes games, food, music and prizes.  There will be a Farmers Market and Bakery which provides fresh produce and baked goods at no charge, a Food Court which will provide hot dogs, hot ham sandwiches, chips and more throughout the afternoon free of charge.  Games for all ages, including the dunk tank, goldfish game, high striker, bounce house and slide, to name just a few, will be available for everyone to enjoy.  Members of the congregation will be available in the prayer tent throughout the event.  Door prizes will be awarded throughout the afternoon.

 

100th Celebration

Community Picnic & Health Fair

On August 16th, the Crestwood Lions will be hosting a Community Picnic/Health Fair at Buchert Park in Mantua from noon until 4pm. The Lions will provide free hot dogs, chips and pop for all attendees. There will be eye screenings for adults and children, blood pressure and blood sugar testing, information from various medical providers and chair massages. Local businesses will be in attendance to provide information on the services or products they provide. The Lions will also provide free games for the children. In addition, there will be raffle prizes and a 50/50 drawing. All proceeds from the raffle and 50/50 will go to the Lions 13D Eye Care Foundation, which provides eye surgeries for individuals who have no means of obtaining them by themselves. There may be more. The only way to find out is to come down and see for yourselves. We look forward to meeting with all of you.

Newton Falls High School 1989’s 25th Class Reunion will be held October 11th at The First Congregational Church in Newton Falls from 5:30-9 p.m. Social hour 5:30-6:30.  Eat at 6:30 p.m. $20 per person/$35 per couple.  Mailings will be sent out in July.  Contact Megan Perrine via email mperrine33@aol.com or phone 330-872-3304.
