The Portage County Senior Center is again participating in Acme’s “Community Cash Back” program. The program runs from August 6th-December 26th, and you can either mail your receipts or drop them off. The Portage County Senior Center is located at 705 Oakwood St. (Floor G) in Ravenna. Aspire staff helps adults prep for the GED/HSE, brush up on basic skills, transition to post-secondary, training, or employment, and we have a class to assist English for Speakers of Other Languages learn basic language skills.

Rooted in Trees! An Outdoor Celebration

One of the most effective, powerful ways we can greatly improve our communities is by the simple act of planting trees. Join Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District, Geauga Park District, and the newly founded, Chardon-based, Rooted in Trees organization for a free, family-friendly tree planting event. Participants will learn how to properly plant a tree with local resource professionals, see hands-on demonstrations including staking, proper mulching, and deer guard installation, and take home a free tree seedling donated by Bartlett Tree Experts. Together we can leave a legacy and help regrow Northeast Ohio’s tree canopy, starting in our own backyard. Program will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 10 AM-Noon at Orchard Hills Park. Registration is required by Monday, October 5, at geaugarootedintrees.eventbrite.com. Dress for the outdoors and please bring a mask and practice social distancing. Rain date is Wednesday October 7.

Freedom Schoolhouse Open House

The Freedom Historical Society would like to invite you to an open house tour of our Freedom One Room Schoolhouse. The open house will be Saturday, October 17th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The schoolhouse is located at 7276 S.R. 303. We will be following the Ohio Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines for social distancing during the open house. Masks will be required for those touring the schoolhouse.

Mr. Jesse has been a banjo player for seven years and would be happy to share his knowledge with you.
