Community EMS District to  Host Parade and Open House

Community EMS District is hosting a parade, open house and health fair on Saturday, May 31, 2014. The parade will kick off at 12:00 p.m. from the James A. Garfield High School, and travel down South Street to State Street, then conclude at the Community EMS station on Forest Street, where lunch will be served.

Many events are planned for the Open House, including a bounce house, fingerprinting by the Garrettsville Police Department and an appearance by University Hospitals MedEvac! University Hospitals will also be at the station conducting a health fair.

Eagle Creek Conservation Club Annual Youth Fishing Derby

The Eagle Creek Conservation Club is pleased to announce that they will be holding their Annual Youth Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 1, 2014.  The event will take place at the Newton Falls Community Center pond located at 52 East Quarry Street in Newton Falls. The derby is a free event open to all children ages 15 and under. Registration begins at 11am and the contest will run from noon until 2pm. The event has been a local tradition for years where those who have participated in the past are now bringing their children for the experience. The fishing derby is held to help foster children’s appreciation of the outdoors and interest in fishing. Silent Auction

Maple Grove School benefit Silent Auction May 30th at the Parkman Community House. Tickets available at Graham’s Country Store or Crosscut Country Store or by calling 330-5278-0979. Tickets are $10.00 and include 20 silent auction tickets. Doors open at 4:00, drawings begin at 6:30.

 

Drive-In

Just like the 50’s drive-in – with root beer floats and carhops! May 30th from 5-7pm the Youth and Outreach Committee of Portage Faith UMC will be having a Drive-In dinner in the parking lot of Portage Faith. The menu features hamburgers, cheeseburgers, tater tots and floats with your choice of Coke, Root beer or diet; bottled water will also be available. You can eat in your car or sit at the picnic tables (weather permitting)Join the fun! Proceeds go towards Youth projects.

 

God Provides a Free Meal

God Provides a Free Meal, May 30th from 4-6pm at Nelson United Methodist Church, 9367 St. Rt. 305. Sloppy Joes, coleslaw, chips and dessert.

 

Steak Fry & Chicken Dinner

May 31

The Garrettsville Eagles will hold their monthly steak fry and grilled chicken dinner on May 31st from 4:00 to 7:30 pm. Meals include baked potato or French fries, green beans, roll and salad. Steak dinners are $12 and chicken dinners are $8. Open to the public. Boogieman band to play after from 8-11:30 pm.

 

Kid’s Family Game Party

The Windham Church of Christ, 9837 Wolf Road, Windham, is having their monthly party on May 31st from 3-5pm in the fellowship hall. Cake walk, musical chairs, and indoor and outdoor games are planned (weather permitting). Hot dogs and punch will be served.

 

Athletic Physicals

Dr. Steven Riley, Chiropractic Center of Garrettsville,  will be offering athletic physicals for the 2014-15 year. Cost is $10 and will take place on May 31st from 9am-1pm in the Middle School Gym. Final Square Dance of Season

On May 31,2014. The North Bloomfield Historical Society will host, their  last Square Dance of the season. Location of the dance is at the Town Hall, at  Rt. 45 and Rt. 87. Gorge Hike 

May 31

Join professional naturalist staff from the ODNR’s Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, as we traverse the hemlock lined sandstone gorge and waterfalls of Sheepskin Hollow State Nature Preserve in Columbiana County. The hike will begin at 1:00pm. Sheepskin Hollow is located at 50991 Pancake-Clarkson Rd Negley, OH  44441. No registration is required. For more information contact Adam Wohlever at (330)-527-5118. Special Instructions: This is a difficult hike and not recommended for small children or inexperienced hikers. Parking is along Pancake-Clarkson Rd. near the power line right of way.

 

2014 Freedom Dog Fest

June 1st, Aurora Parks & Recreation Department & Freedom Greyhound Rescue of Aurora invite you to attend the 2014 Freedom Dog Fest. All breeds welcome! Little Tigers 5th Annual Golf Outing

The Newton Falls Little Tigers will be holding their 5th annual golf outing at the Olde Dutch golf course in Lake Milton on June 7th. The 4-man scramble starts with an  8 a.m. shotgun with registration starting 7:00. The 4-man scramble costs $70.00 per person and will include coffee/ doughnuts, lunch provided by SUBWAY, steak dinner, and beverages. There will also be prizes on every hole and side games. Geauga County Master Gardener Volunteers Fairy Gardens

Blood Drive

Falls Home Remodeling will be sponsoring another Blood Drive Here at our office at 104 a- East Broad St. Newton Falls on June 9th from 2-6 pm. The additional Blood drive is used to replace the Blood drives that were formerly held at the Methodist Church. Please come out and donate blood to help others and save a life! Hambden Grange Concerts

The Friends of Melana 5k Run/1 Mile Walk

The Friends of Melana Foundation is organizing the 4th Annual Friends of Melana 5k run and 1 mile fun run/walk to be held on June 29th at Garrettsville Summerfest. All proceeds go towards research for children’s glioma brain cancer. Annual Spelling Bee

The annual spelling bee, sponsored by Trumbull County Retired Teachers, will be held on July 10, at 1 p.m. at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. Geauga West Friends of the Library Now Accepting Donations for the Annual Summer Book Sale

The spring book sale sponsored by the Geauga West Friends of the Library was a great success. Thanks to everyone for their support – for donations, for volunteers, and for everyone who came to purchase books and other items. The Friends are now accepting donations for their annual summer book sale which will take place July 30 – August 2. Bring gently used or new children’s and adult books, collectibles, comic books, CDs, DVDs, audio books on CD, puzzles and games for adults and children, sheet music, coffee table books, and prints to the Geauga West Library during regular library hours.  No textbooks or encyclopedias, please.  A receipt for your donation is available. Funds raised from the book sale support adult and children’s programming at the Geauga West Library.  The Geauga West Library is located at 13455 Chillicothe Road in Chesterland, next to West Geauga High School.  The phone number is 440-729-4250.

 

Grant-In-Aid-Program

The Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of women educators in Geauga County, is offering a grant-in-aid to a female student who is entering her senior year in college and is majoring in education. Dessert Extravaganza
