Windham – Windham Exempted Village Schools received a $1,000 grant from United Way of Portage County (UWPC) to help with funding for the food pantry at the Junior-Senior High School that is provided for students and their families. There are multiple staff members and volunteers to help arrange pick-up and delivery for items. The families receive balanced meals, as well as hygiene products from the food pantry
“We served 64 families this week with food from our food pantry. This money will allow us to serve many families during this difficult time. We appreciate the United Way’s support for our families and district food pantry!” said Aireane Curtis, Superintendent of Windham Exempted Village Schools.
United Way of Portage County will continue to award grants on a rolling basis as additional donations are received. Local nonprofits can see the criteria and apply at https://www.uwportage.org/covid-19-emergency-response-fund
“I am grateful to those in our community who supported the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund to help feed those in need,” said UWPC President & CEO, Bill Childers. “Hunger never ends and the need is greater now more than ever for those who are vulnerable. Every dollar we can provide will meet the continuing needs of our community.”
