Ravenna– University Hospitals Portage Medical Center will host the 2016 Family Health & Safety Day on Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the UH Portage Medical Center Parking Lot and the UH Portage Medical Arts Building.
Family Health & Safety Day offers a variety of free family-friendly activities, safety tips, wellness screenings and educational materials that support and promote healthy lifestyles for people of all ages. The UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Safety Squad will host activities that teach children and adults how to have a safe and fun summer. Free children’s bike helmets with proper fitting will also be available. School immunizations will be offered by the Portage County Health Department.
Walk-up health screenings offered at no cost include balance and grip strength; blood pressure; bone density; hearing; sleep apnea; cholesterol and glucose blood tests; body mass index; diabetic foot assessment; vision and glaucoma; and stroke risk assessment. Free lower extremity vascular assessments and skin cancer screenings will also be offered but require pre-registration by calling 216-767-8435.

Additionally, UH Portage Medical Center will hold a community open house for its new Women’s Health Center during Family Health & Safety Day from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The open house will feature self-guided tours, a Boo-boo Clinic for kids and an opportunity to meet the friendly staff of UH Northeast Ohio OB/GYN.
