A sort of adventurous normality characterized the responses to membership roll call at the August 19, 2022 meeting of the Twentieth Century Club of Garrettsville, held at the lovely rural home of Jane Hill. Activities over the summer recess were frequently family-focused, and included a grandson’s baseball games, a granddaughter’s dance competition, just being with kids & grandkids for any number of activities & occasions. “Trips” in many forms–to the Emergency Room, to Chicago, to Alaska (along with Covid) where a whale did some sight-seeing too, to a Women’s Rights Tour, funeral books & quarries illuminated old times, a girls’ junket to a haunted house– were taken by many. A bear was in the woods (Having a teddy bear picnic?), a birthday was celebrated (A collarbone was broken), horses were ridden, weddings were attended, gardens were flourishing. Adventures of the Twentieth Century Club in the Twenty-first century were anything but tame.

In addition to all this upbeat was a review of recent losses and afflictions to members and loved ones, wishing everyone comfort, consolation, and support, as life goes on.

The next meeting, kicking off the club year, will be held on September 15. It is Guest Night, and members should be prepared to introduce their guests as the roll call response or provide an excuse (and it had better be good) as to why no guest is in attendance. Program books should be distributed at this meeting.
It’s all good…and getting better.
