The work of 55 experienced and emerging clay artists will be featured in a non-juried exhibition opening Saturday, September 28 at the Trumbull Art Gallery.
Titled the Clay Invitational: “Our Clay Journey”, the six-week exhibit will showcase work produced during Clay@TAG Workshops, Classes and Open Studios since July 2021 to the present day.
Those attending these programs during the past two years were invited to submit up to three pieces to the show. As a result, a total of 116 works were submitted, including 25 of the more than 125 Gnomes that have been made in the Clay@TAG Studio since 2022. These mythical characters will be reunited for a special “Gnome Reunion” in the Main Gallery.
The idea for the Clay Invitational is the brainchild of the three curators for the show: Kat Devadan, Veronique Gerard and Stephanie L Sferra.
According to Sferra, “So many members of our local community have taken advantage of and supported our variety of clay classes. Some have participated in one or two sessions while others have attended multiple times. Five original members of our Thursday Open Studio gang have been sharing ideas and working on special projects most Thursday afternoons for nearly three years.”
“Whether someone is new to clay or a seasoned clay artist who’s been creating work for several years, we felt the creative efforts of our Clay@TAG Family deserved to be displayed and recognized. Simply put: It’s an opportunity for all of us who have been bitten by the clay bug to reflect on the creative journey we’ve been experiencing.”
