Township’s New Generator Installed

1426

Windham Twp. – The Windham Township Trustees met for their regularly-scheduled meeting recently, with all governing parties in attendance. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and the usual housekeeping, the trustees opened the floor for guests to speak.

The local electrician, Todd Snyder, who has been working on upgrading the electricity and installing the generator, was on hand to discuss some issues he has found and update everyone on what he had completed. Snyder presented a problem with the outside electrical service that the trustees wanted installed, along with an estimated cost. He suggested three options 1) install in front of building 2) install on the side of building 3) out on the greens.

After some discussion on the electrical problem, it was determined to put the service on the greens providing, they could run the cable in the air rather than underground. They didn’t want the work they had just completed on the roads torn up. The trustees allotted $1000 for the project. The electrician stated that the generator was done, the maintenance building was upgraded to LED lights, and the water heater was installed. He stated that there was still work to complete in the storage building. All this was completed with grant monies, costing the township nothing. The outside service is not included in the grant monies.

In roads, Brian Miller reported that they completed the chip and seal of the roads around the greens. They did some ditch work on Hopkins and Shanks-Down Roads. They also mowed all the township roadsides. There are still some ditching projects that need to be done on Hewins and Bryant Roads. All the road and cemetery work is done by the township’s two employees Kevin Wert and Rusty Maiorca.

In cemetery news, Rich Gano reported that he is still working on section” F” of the cemetery. He is getting more fill and topsoil to level off the section and create more grave sites. He believes there is enough room for about 50 more sites.  There was a discussion on drainage problem at the cemetery but they are undecided as how to remedy the issue. The trustees discussed setting a fee on moving or relocating cremated remains, after some discussion, they set the fee at $200.

Zoning Inspector Joe Pinti reported that he wrote two permits for the month of September. He wrote one for a deck and one for a new permit to replace an expired one for a residence. Pinti said that 10164 State Route 82, which was demolished, was originally two parcels and he signed the mylar for it to be created into one parcel for the land bank which helped clean up the land. A developer contacted him about dividing up 96 acres of land at Stanley Road and Werger Roads.  The developer is interested in dividing it into five-acre parcels.  Regional planning is working with the owner on the project. Pinti talked with the owner of the duplex on State Route 82 about getting it mowed and cleaned up. No response, so he turned it over to the prosecutor. He also turned over 9270 Bryant Road to the prosecutor as well, due to no response. A chronic problem residence on Bryant Road has been addressed again and they complied. The Old Church on Silica is down  to the satisfaction of the owner and the township. Pinti signed off on it.  Pinti announced that NDS is getting out of the land bank and that the trailer, next to the trailer park that he has been working on getting demolished will have to go under the new company.

Fire District, Gano reported that still a continuous flow of people coming and going. Repairs were made to the ambulance and new garage door opener was installed. The district received a $1000 PEP grant but it will be used for mandatory physicals, drug testing, fit testing for Scott Air Packs etc.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
