Enjoy a park with other dogs, dog-walkers and Naturalist Karie

Dogs and your humans, take a winter walk with Naturalist Karie Wheaton and other park-going pooches during an upcoming Hound Hike – no registration required!

Hound Hikes this season are slated for Wednesday, January 24, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Park (two easy trails); Saturday, February 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Eldon Russell Park (easy trails); and Saturday, March 16, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve (1.5-mile hike).

Hosted entirely outdoors, Hound Hikes are enjoyable for all as long as rules are followed. Before coming out, please pack your own bowl with water, poop scoop or bags for clean-up, and towels for paws before they reach the car seats. Only one dog is permitted to attend per handler, pets must be kept under control at all times on a leash not exceeding eight feet;  participants displaying aggression or excessive barking will be asked to leave.

Cold Nose Companions, a dog training center located in Chardon, also plans to attend each hike to share some helpful tips and tricks to practice as we go.

“I’ve really enjoyed having Cold Nose Companions out with us,” Naturalist Karie said. “The trainer in attendance offers their expertise on walking in the parks with dogs. Many participants then seek them out with questions, and they even stick around after the hike for some specific advice.

“Partnering with Cold Nose Companions has definitely been a great asset to our Hound Hikes. We hope it inspires more dog-walkers to join us for more hikes!”
