Nelson Twp. – A program presented at the Nelson Community Center on July 25th dealt with the life of James Knowlton. This surprise program was presented by his daughter, Shirley Knowlton Hofmeister, and featured many photos, newspaper articles, and information about his family, favorite hobbies, career and recreational activities that Jim has enjoyed over the years.
Members of this Thursday morning senior group learned about his service in the US Navy, his 44 yr. career as a carpenter, kitchen designer, estimator, and drawer of house plans at Morgan Lumber Co., his love of music and the many choirs, quartets, and musical groups he has been part of since high school, his competitive swimming accomplishments, his passion for sailing, and his beautiful woodworking skills. Many of his wooden creations were on display.
The program was not complete until Shirley mentioned the love that her father shows toward his wife, three children, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Jim and his wife, Martha, have been married for sixty-seven years and continue to demonstrate the love and compassion that they have for each other, their family, and to all of their many friends and relatives. They have set a beautiful example for their family to follow. Jim’s sister and brother in law, Barbara and Ardel Morgan, were also at the program.
After the program, Jim was presented a cake that was enjoyed by everyone.
