And the survey says…On Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. the Portage County Literacy Coalition held the very first Family Feud for Literacy Event at the Eagles’ Club located at 812 Cleveland Road, Ravenna, Ohio.
Guests were served a light dinner of pizza, cookies, and refreshments while three big ticket items were raffled off, which included: a money tree donated by David Shea, PCLC President; oil change/tire rotation, t-shirt, baseball hat, blanket, and more from Ganley Chevrolet of Aurora; and a basket from Cleveland/Akron area filled with events and things to do in the area worth $1,300.00 that was gathered by our very own PCLC Vice President, Miriam Frydrak. There was a 50/50 raffle and raffle baskets donated by all board members.
It was a night of laughs and great company as the teams took their spots to battle for the top spot at the PCLC’s Family Feud for Literacy 2019, teams included: The Heapers & Green Machine (sponsored by Community Action Council); The Dewey Decimals (Reed Memorial Library); the E-Lemon-ators (Jobs & Family Services); The Portage County Administrators (Brad Cromes, Portage County Treasurer; Todd Peetz, Lori Calcei; and Steve Faharg) and The Edgemacators (Portage County Aspire Instructors). Teams battled throughout the evening with questions like, “Name animals that are found in the Bible.” Answers included: Dove, Ox, Horse, Donkey, and more. Each team played three rounds and their final scores were tallied. Drum roll please: The 2019 Family Feud for Literacy Event winner is … the E-Lemon-ators!
The Portage County Literacy Coalition supports adults in Portage County pursuing their HSE/GED’s by supporting the Aspire Program and hosting a yearly GED/HSE recognition for all their family and friends; pays for GED/HSE fees for those that score a 155+ (essentially an adult could earn their HSE/GED for free); the PCLC also provides $4,000.00 in scholarships for those first stepping into post-secondary after their HSE/GED or continuing their education.
