Nine Northeast Ohio quilt shop owners have come together to offer a ‘taste’ of their craft to attendees of the Quilters’ Fling “Sweet Treats Quilt Shop Hop.” The eighth annual hop is themed “Strips and Dips” and will focus on narrow batik fabric strips, and dip recipes to sample.
The Sweet Treats Quilt Shop Hop will run from Wednesday, April 10 to Saturday, April 20, 2013. At their first stop, participants receive a free passport which they get stamped at all the shops they visit. The shops have designed exciting projects from bright colorful batik strips, often called “jelly roll strips.” Attendees with completed passports will receive a free copy of Confetti in the Corner, a quilt book written by Terry Atkinson of Atkinson Designs. The book contains quilt block patterns and recipes and is a $19 value. Fabric packets of batik strips will be available to purchase for those interested in making their own quilt. Hoppers will also be eligible to win door prizes, gift baskets and gift certificates.
Although every shop has its own unique hours, all the shops will be open at least 10 am-5 pm, Mondays through Saturdays during this event. Many have evening hours. The twelve participating shops include:
* Anna’s Sewing Center, North Olmsted
* A Piece In Time, Akron
* Bernina Store and Sew Much More, Twinsburg
* Cottonpicker’s Quilt Shop, Chardon
* The Craft Cupboard, Middlefield
* Mara’s Fabric & Gifts, Eastlake
* Quilter’s Source, Parma
* The Polka Dot Pincushion, Richfield
* Tiny Stitches, Middlefield
“This fun event brings together all the elements quilters love…fresh new designs, recipes and food, and, of course, shopping! We love sharing great new ideas, sampling along the way, and having fun as we visit and learn more about what the area shops have to offer,” says Chris Lippincott, manager of A Piece In Time in Akron, and co-coordinator of Quilters’ Fling, the group that organizes the event.
In addition to the spring Sweet Treats Quilt Shop Hop, the group also coordinates an educational event, Quilters’ Schoolhouse in August, and The Jingle Bell Shop Hop in September, which has a holiday theme.
