Voters in Portage County will have an opportunity to talk virtually with county candidates in the general election during a Voters and Candidates Face2Face Forum on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m.-noon.
The event sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kent (LWVK) is free and open to the community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be held in an online meeting format. The program is co-sponsored by the Portage County NAACP Chapter, Kent Environmental Council, the Kent Lions Club, the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Kent State University and Kent State Votes.
Candidates for contested races in the general election have been invited to participate. These include candidates for Portage County Commissioner, County Court of Common Pleas – General Division, County Recorder, County Sheriff, 18th District State Senate and 75th District State Representative.
Event participants will hear opening remarks from each candidate and then will move virtually into small break out rooms that candidates will join. This format will give voters the opportunity to ask questions directly to each candidate in a small group setting.
While there is no fee, attendees are asked to register at https://bit.ly/Face2FaceLWVK. The website will also explain how the virtual forum will work and other relevant information.
The LWVK will have a local Voters Guide for the November general election. The guide will be available beginning in October at vote411.org.
