If you haven’t been to Newton Falls, OH (zip 44444) here is yet another reason to go! In addition to the beautiful town, the two rivers, the many parks, the lit-up water tower, the statue of Liberty, the historic USO Building-Community Center, the Covered Bridge and the wonderful unique shops lining the downtown, Tracy and Tom Colosimo proudly adds the event center, Split River Social,-right there in historic Downtown!

Located at 44 West Broad Street, the center boasts a main event room of just under 3,000 square feet. The capacity is 96 guests with a head table of 2, making it a 98-maximum guest capacity. As you walk in, you notice that no detail has been left out of the beautiful design. The original flooring, hard maple, has been meticulously restored. It boasts 12 Farmhouse style tables that seat eight.  The chairs are crossback, attractively designed, so no cover is necessary. Currently, the tables are decorated with pine branches arranged on lace runners centered with a glass-enclosed candle. At the head of the room is the Sweetheart table for two, a great place for a new bride and groom! Towards the back of the room is a 6-foot bar with standing coolers. There is room for 3 tables for food set up, and a sanitation station for serving.  A projector and a 72” TV are available for an add-on.  It also has a small sound system with two microphones to meet your auditory and communication needs.

Looking up, the chandeliers are intricate Swarovski crystal and brass – truly gorgeous.  They paint the room with a warm, inviting glow.  The walls are soft white, with wainscoting all around, accented by floor-length black curtains surrounding the old-fashioned windowpanes.

The back of the house also has attention to detail.  The prep kitchen includes a handwash sink, a three-compartment sink, a microwave, and a refrigerator.  The couple plans to add a warming area soon.

For the bride, there is a changing room.  No need to spend the entire party in your bridal gown, unless you want to.

There is a seating area for those wishing to escape the crowd.  Warm wooden paneling contrasts with the front of the house. Marked by a handsome area rug, it features two comfy chairs inviting one to relax.  Two attractively decorated unisex bathrooms, ADA accessible, are nearby.  There is also a rear entrance for the ease of vendors.

Seen from outside, you might remember this building in one of its previous lives.  Circa 1930, it was originally Brown’s Market. It later became a coffee shop through the mid-early 2010s.  Then it was a tattoo parlor, and eventually a karate studio.  Tracy and Tom purchased the building 2 years ago with the intention of eventually making it a ‘really cool event space.’ They decided ‘why not us?’ When the renter went a separate way, they decided, ‘why not now?’ and went ahead full steam.

Since the start, this has been Tracy’s baby.  Her target was to create an upscale event location at an affordable price.  A place to have weddings, receptions, showers and any special occasion. The name, Split River, came to her years ago and has stayed in her head all that time. Split River, of course, refers to the two branches of the Mahoning River, between which the town nestles.

The Colosimo name is familiar in Newton Falls.  The couple previously has been very active in the Newton Falls Area Commerce Association. They own the alley between the Split River Social and Healthy Treasures. As is their trademark, it has been restored and made into a lovely gathering place, called Emilia’s Sol Alleata, (Emilias’s Sun Alley.) It is named after their daughter, who is the sunshine of their lives.  A great place to enjoy coffee and a treat from the Broken Leaf!

They also have Fieldview Acres Mercantile, an antique store located at 36 Broad St. The Merc is a great place to shop for antiques, curios, seasonal decor and unique gifts.  The store front and window always have unique and interesting displays.
