Garrettsville – Despite the obstinance of Old Man Winter, signs of Spring are adding up, from the blooming crocuses to the melodic calls of morning songbirds. There’s even a eye-catching red tractor in front of the old Paul’s Lumber building… and a new sign over the door which indicates a new purpose for the vacant storefront at 8018 French Street.
S & K Sales & Service, Inc., a family-owned and operated lawn equipment dealership, was established at 7099 State Route 303 in Freedom Township in 2007 by Brian and Pamela Wilke. They began with a single line of lawn mowers and handheld power equipment. They soon grew to offer multiple top lines of lawn equipment and a line of compact tractors, as well. With over 100 lawn mowers in stock throughout the year, S&K Sales has built one of the largest inventories in northeast Ohio, drawing customers from 14 states.
Needless to say, the Wilkes (along with their children Sabrina, Kyle and Sophia) quickly outgrew their existing retail space. “Our decision to move was based on our rapid growth, Pamela explains.
“We are simply out of room at our current location. We had planned for a large addition at our current location, but ran into numerous obstacles. Those obstacles put us behind nearly three months. Our new location offers a much larger showroom in which we can now display all of our equipment indoors. The numerous outbuildings and acreage offer us much needed on-site storage space as well as room for future growth.”
The Wilkes have had all of their in-stock lawn equipment on clearance at their Freedom Twp. location throughout the month of March. They plan to open for business at the new location in Garrettsville by April 1, where S&K Sales will continue to offer all of the same products and services, with the addition of off-season tune-up and storage specials for customers’ lawn equipment. They are also exploring the possibility of indoor and outdoor vehicle storage.
Just in time for Spring, residents have more options to purchase top brands of lawn equipment locally, including Bob-Cat, ExMark, Ferris, Dixon and Husqvarna lawn mowers; ECHO and Husqvarna chainsaws; ECHO, Shindaiwa and Husqvarna trimmers, leaf blowers and edgers; and Branson tractors.
A member of the Garrettsville Area Chamber of Commerce, S&K Sales has earned an A+ Rating from the Akron Better Business Bureau, which also awarded them a Gold Star Award for 2008-2011. S&K Sales has also been awarded a 2010 Gold Sales Award from Bob-Cat.
“Our goal is to continue to grow our business,” says Pamela. “While we enjoyed being a part of the Freedom community, we look forward to our future in Garrettsville.”
