Garrettsville – A Portage County District Library (PCDL) card allows anyone in the service area to borrow books, movies, music CDs and other items from the library; access digitally streaming eBooks, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, comics, magazines, music, and more; use of online, electronic research databases for free for educational projects; and free access to take video courses to advance their skills or careers.
Having a library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available. Since September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, it’s the best time to highlight the supportive role libraries and librarians play in transforming lives and communities through education. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use libraries as a source of lifelong learning. Older children and teens have free use of electronic research databases for homework and other school projects. Adults seeking to improve their lives can apply for jobs using a free internet connection; attend library programs such as book discussions, cooking, crafting, and more; and save money on entertainment expenses by checking out DVDs, Blu-Rays, music, TV shows, eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, books on CD, and more for free.
So “be incredible” this September. Apply for a PCDL card for everyone in the family by visiting any PCDL branch library or downloading an application online to mail in at www.portagelibrary.org. Tell your neighbors and friends too — be a hero to them all. Branch libraries include Aurora Memorial, Garrettsville, Outreach Services (includes Home Delivery, Library Express, and The Library Box at NEW Center in Rootstown), Pierce Streetsboro, Randolph, and Windham.
