Send holiday cards to our overseas troops via Geauga West Library

670

Brighten a soldier’s holiday with Geauga West Friends of the Library and veteran Thomas Monroe. Write a holiday greeting to a member of our armed services and drop it off at Geauga West Library (13455 Chillicothe Road / Chesterland, Ohio 44026) before Dec. 3, 2013. No addresses or postage are needed.

In connection with his VFW post, Monroe of Mantua is sending holiday cards to overseas troops. Cards and notes of thanks to our soldiers serving in the Middle East may be dropped in the red collection box across from the circulation desk. Please use standard-size cards and envelopes. Monroe will address the cards and cover the postage.

Monroe is a veteran himself and he remembers the troops all year long. He collects books of all genres including westerns, mysteries, adventures, science fiction, and humor paperbacks at various local library book sales and sends them to our troops overseas. Recently, at the Geauga West Friends of the Library book sale, Monroe collected more than ten large bags of paperbacks to send to various units overseas. Monroe covers the cost of shipping himself and often gets notes of thanks for his donations. Last year Monroe sent 543 boxes of paperbacks – nearly 16,000 books – to about 25 individual soldiers who share them with the members of their units. The holiday card collection runs through Dec. 3, at Geauga West Library.
