Recently, Garrettsville’s Save A Lot grocery store had the opportunity to celebrate Windham resident Tiffany Plaugher as a Hometown Hero. Plaugher was one of one of 16 winners who were selected in 2025, chosen from 319 nominations around the eastern United States. She was nominated by her colleagues at Katherine Thomas Elementary School in Windham, where she makes a meaningful daily impact on local students. She’s the third winner from Ohio since the program’s inception in 2023.
The Save A Lot Hometown Heroes program was established in 2023 to highlight and support dedicated individuals making meaningful contributions in their communities. Winners are selected throughout the year and receive a $500 Save A Lot gift card.
“When it comes to giving back to the people who are doing a lot of good in our communities, our stores do it best,” said Bill Mayo, Chief Executive Officer for Save A Lot. “To continue to see our Hometown Heroes program thrive, illustrates that recognizing people serving their community has the power to lift others in their time of need and create positive change within communities. That’s something we are honored to do at Save A Lot.”
The grocery store chain has recognized 42 winners since 2023, awarding a total of $21,000 to individuals and community organizations. Save A Lot has plans to expand the program in 2026, giving them the opportunity to recognize even more local heroes and providing funding for more local initiatives.
Founded in 1977, Save A Lot is the largest independently owned and operated grocery store chain in the U.S., with approximately 700 stores in 29 states. They are headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. For more information visit www.SaveALot.com
