Garrettsville – The Garrettsville Summerfest Santa Pub Crawl was a smashing success with a record-breaking number of participants. December 8th’s crawl drew 115 participants ready to get their Christmas on and raise money for Garrettsville Summerfest.

The pub crawl is quite a simple affair. Everyone dons their most obnoxious Christmas costume, pays a $25 entry fee, spends the day with their closest friends visiting the neighborhood bars and collecting a card from each establishment. Whoever comes up with the best poker hand, wins $100. Jim Curry claimed the best hand with a four of a kind. Prizes also were awarded to the most obnoxious costume and the most original costume. Cousin Eddie (Rich McIntyre) from “Christmas Vacation” spent the day in Garrettsville and took home the most obnoxious costume prize. Rachelle Bultrowicz, wearing a dress made of bows, won the most original costume.

The downtown area was overrun with Santas, elves, folks with trees on their heads, Grinches, Ralphies, Buddy the Elf, Mr. Freeze, some really obnoxious Christmas suits and ugly sweaters — the hit of the afternoon was Cousin Eddie. There were some reports of Cousin Eddie needing to empty the $#!& and “some man was running around town without any pants on”, Oh my! Some of the elves were spotted getting into mischief along the way as well. It was a great afternoon /evening for merry-making.
The event included a fantastic dinner catered by Cal’s Restaurant.

Following dinner, there was a Chinese auction, a 50/50 raffle, and of course, Karaoke. The karaoke was a hoot, with most contestants needing to keep their day jobs. It was a fun day/evening event that helped raise money for Garrettsville Summerfest, while giving folks a chance to de-stress before the busy holiday starts.
