Garrettsville – The members of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club are getting their stuff together.  Organizing is the name of the game.

Task sheets, planning outlines, continuity, transparency, alacrity are all part of the plans.

They’re hoping to promote the student exchange programs of Rotary, having found such success with Jessica Lyons and the Lyons family this year with her experiences in Norway. Families to host exchange students coming to this area need to be located and encouraged.  More students from here might be interested if more information were available.

The hope is to get an earlier start on recruiting  participants for the Four-Way Speech Contest despite the decline in the availability of speech classes in public schools, reflecting school financial difficulties everywhere.  Several local speakers have done well in the competition; more might do so if discovered and coached earlier in the process.  Understanding of the financial rewards might help.  Looks good on college applications and resumes too.

On their plates currently :

*John Wolff, president-elect, is attending training sessions in the district and soliciting participation in the District 6630 gathering at Quail Hollow, Painesville.

*Tom Collins issued an invitation to a movie showing–“Carbon Nation”–at Hiram College’s Gerstacker Hall on March 21.

*Ronda Brady may be making a presentation on an anti-bullying program in the schools.

Join today. Engage Rotary, Change the World.
