The members of Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary recently hosted the assistant District Governor of District 6630, George Schumacher, for the induction ceremony confirming new members Caitlin Ellerhorst Lawless, Mary Ann Brockett, Tom Collins and Don Holtry (LDS corporate member).
Schumacher highlighted the identity of Rotary International as a global network of community volunteers with both privileges and responsibilities. One million, two hundred thousand members worldwide are committed to spreading solutions to problems in nearly every aspect of the human condition–health, education, social interaction, water supplies, global development–in broadest terms. He pointed out that the operations sponsored by the Rotary Foundation incurred no administrative costs because the infrastructure needed is already set in place, ready to go into action without the delay of building the operation from the ground up. “Service Above Self” is not just a slogan, but a set of marching orders calling upon “Every Rotarian, Every Year”. Willing Rotarians have pursued the goal of eradicating polio in nations across the world and they are closing in on that goal. Future goals will receive the same focus and the same determination, aided by the acquisition of new members and their visions of service and self.
Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary meets on Monday evenings at 5:30 in the Hiram College Dining Hall. Come join them.
