Rotary Hosted Successful Sidewalk Spring Chalk Drawing Contest

Mantua – In what is becoming an annual harbinger of the season, the second annual Easter Chalk Drawing Contest took place over Easter weekend, when local amateur artists came out to help the season spring forth on local sidewalks. This is the second time the Rotary Club of Mantua has held the event.

According to Rotary President Dean Olson, the afternoon contest provided children and adults with an opportunity to enjoy the sunny weather, and demonstrate their talents. Due to the timing of the event, artists were asked to depict images relating to Easter, and they did not disappoint. Subjects included fanciful images of Easter bunnies, flowers, chicks and eggs, rainbows, and one that shared, “He is risen.”

Their entries adorned the diagonal sidewalk from State Route 44 to the Crestwood High School parking lot, providing lots of visibility to those walking or driving by the prime location. Cash prizes, courtesy of the Rotary, were awarded to the top three places across seven age-group categories.

“Smiles and laughter abounded among all in attendance whether drawing or just watching the artists create,” Olson noted. As expected, the event took place while participants and spectators practiced safe social distancing protocols.
