Richard Jerome Brooks

85

Richard “Dick” Brooks passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025 in Hendersonville, TN with his loving wife Barbara Brooks by his side.

He is survived by his children; Scott Brooks (Carolyn), Mark Brooks, and son-in-law Wayne Arntsen (Claudia), his brother Donald (Gisela), as well as his stepchildren Louann Mack (Tim), Steve Pancost (Janet), and Jon Pancost (Becky).  He adored his grandchildren Ryan, Taylor, Trevor, & Mason and was blessed with 13 new grandchildren through marriage and a total of 9wonderful great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Beverly Brooks, his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 56 years, his father and mother: Clifton and Fidelia Brooks, his brother David Brooks, and his daughter Susan.

Dick was raised in the small town of Hiram, OH where he graduated high school and went on to excel both in Academics and Sports (Track, Football) at Hiram College.  He went to work as a math teacher after college before eventually moving on to a very successful career in the coal industry.  Dick was always involved in the local community, whether it was serving as a deacon and singing in the choir at church or coaching and cheering on his kids in a variety of sports and activities.

Everywhere he went Dick greeted friends, family, or even complete strangers with an uplifting smile and a kindness that endeared him to all he met.  His generosity was abundant, andhe was usually the first to jump in and lend a helping hand when someone was in need.  Having been an athlete himself, he loved sports! Whether it was rooting on the SIU Salukis, Chicago Bears, or one of his kids or grandkids he truly enjoyed taking in a game whenever he had a chance.  He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially skiing, fishing, hiking, or golfing in the beauty of Montana.  Dick took pride in his family and faith, never more happy then when he was surrounded by loved ones and “hamming it up” with his trademark sense of humor.  He was truly a great human, and a man of great integrity and kindness.  He will be dearly missed by many!

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Tuesday March 18th at 6pm at First Presbyterian Church of Hendersonville, TN(127 W. Main St.) immediately followed by a reception.
