On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 4pm-7pm, Habitat for Humanity of Portage County’s ReStore (ReStore) will host their annual Recycle Extravaganza. The event will be held at the ReStore, 1510 S. Water Street in Kent, where guests will be able to recycle many items, preventing them from ending up in landfills. Last year the ReStore prevented 522 tons of items from being dumped into landfills.
This signature “green” event serves the community by offering paper shredding and recycling for electronics, paint, clothing, pet supplies, home goods, flags, eyeglasses, and more through the support of loyal Community Partners, including: Portage County Recycling, Green Board IT, Ecotone Paint, Family & Community Services, Discount Shred, Portage County Dog Warden, and Kent Lions Club.
This event is one of the largest recycling events in Portage County and is open to everyone! All opportunities to recycle are FREE except for electronics and paint, which have modest fees associated with each to offset costs incurred by the recycler.
In addition to recycling initiatives, all guests are encouraged to stop inside the ReStore for shopping (with a 20% off coupon during the event), community tables, basket raffles, silent auction, and a 50/50 drawing. The Wiener Guy will also be set up on site during the event.
This year’s financial goal to help offset event expenses is $5,000. Funds raised will also help purchase items needed at the ReStore to further local green initiatives. Huge thank you to SoftLite Windows & Doors and Wall Street Recycling for their current sponsorships!
