Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District to discuss the great-biggest among us

Since 2016, Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District has sponsored Geauga County’s BIG TREE Contest. Curious about the winners over those years? Mark your calendar to join Geauga SWCD’s Gail Prunty at The West Woods Nature Center and “em-BARK” on a unique indoor adventure as she introduces you to some of our county’s biggest trees!

During Gail’s hour-long presentation, Giants Among Us! Discovering Geauga County’s Biggest Trees, on Sunday, February 2, at 3 p.m., park visitors will also hear stories about these mammoth trees’ fantastic past, learn how to measure a big tree themselves, and celebrate the benefits and joy that a great-big tree can bring.

Plus, if the program leaves you eager to see one of the state’s largest trees up close, look no farther than The West Woods’ Tulip Trail and a naturalist-led hike on Saturday, February 22. Due to limited parking near the park’s Affelder House, registration is required to join one of the day’s two-hour Big Tree Hikes, starting at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, which will cover about three miles over rolling hills. Come prepared for varied winter weather and icy conditions – or plan to visit the giant tuliptree that gave the trail its name independently! The route to the trail can be found on the trail map at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org by clicking on Parks, then The West Woods.
