Portage Park District Deer Archery Lottery Opens

1121

The Portage Park District’s deer archery program lottery is now open for entries until September 6, 2024. The program allows for limited controlled bow hunting at designated park properties not currently open to the public. Hunters will be chosen by lottery and must complete Park District requirements, including permit applications, to participate. The archery season will be split into two sessions with different permits issued for each session to allow for greater opportunities for participation.

The mission of the Portage Park District is to conserve Portage County’s natural heritage and provide opportunities for its appreciation and enjoyment. The Portage Park District continually plans and manages parklands to conserve and restore diverse ecosystems while providing appropriate amenities for public use and enjoyment. The goal of the Portage Park District’s Deer Archery Program is consistent with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife deer management strategy “To provide a deer population that maximizes recreational opportunities including viewing, photographing, and hunting, while minimizing conflicts with agriculture, motor travel, and other areas of human endeavor.”

Information on archery program requirements and lottery entry can be found on the “Things to Do” page on the park website at www.portageparkdistrict.org. Questions? Contact Chief Ranger Kevin Nietert at knietert@portageparkdistrict.org or call 330-297-7728 .
