Portage County – Portage County was recently awarded a Hazard Mitigation Grant from Ohio Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to update the County’s All-Hazards Mitigation Plan. This update is mandatory by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA2K) every five years to remain eligible for funding of identified projects.
When available, local governments, communities and non-profit organizations may receive funding for any mitigation strategy found in the approved and adopted plan update. A business or individual may apply through an approved sub-applicant.
Community input is critical to this plan’s success and the FEMA approval process. The Portage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is seeking public comment at the following two meetings:
Public Meeting 1
Thursday, February 13, 2020
5:00-6:30 PM
Maplewood Career Center
7075 State Route 88, Ravenna, OH 44266
Public Meeting 2
Thursday, April 16, 2020
5:00-6:30 PM
Maplewood Career Center
7075 State Route 88, Ravenna, OH 44266
These two meetings will include discussion on potential hazards that affect Portage County’s communities, as well as projects that can be implemented to reduce risk of harm to people or property as a result of these hazards. The public’s feedback is essential to provide input on any potential hazards and to prioritize the hazards and associated projects that will be included in the next plan.
