Portage County Health District is Offering Motorcycle Basic Rider Training

1536

Ravenna – The Portage County Health District will offer MORE (Motorcycle Ohio Rider Enhancement) training through September 30. This basic rider training is designed to address the needs and interests of beginning riders. The goal is to help build a strong foundation of awareness and safety in what may develop into a lifelong activity.

The sixteen-hour course includes classroom training providing basic knowledge and skills needed for safe and responsible motorcycle operation. The course will help you learn mental skills for safe motorcycling, identify and develop strategies for managing risks, and understand how your decisions affect your ability to ride safely. The course also provides physical riding skills including how to ride in a straight line, shift, turn, and stop the motorcycle – cornering, braking skills, and practice skills needed for emergency situations.

Motorcycle Ohio provides motorcycles and approved DOT (Department of Transportation) helmets for the training. During the riding skills training, the rider will be required to wear protective clothing: over the ankle sturdy footwear, full-finger gloves, long-sleeved shirt or jacket and eye protection.

Schedules and more information are available on the Motorcycle Ohio website @ www.Motorcyce.ohio.gov. Class registration must be done on their website. There is a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee.

Classroom training is held at 705 Oakwood Street, Ravenna. For additional information or questions, please contact Lynette Blasiman, Portage County Health District, at 330-296-9919 Ext. 118.
