Play It Again, Sam!

2717

That’s a famous line from a famous movie (Or at least one everybody thinks that they remember, whether they did or not. Casablanca?). We may have a local version with a small variation : “Play it again everyone.”…with “everyone” being our latest BIG Band, The Thrill of the ‘Ville.

In case you missed it, Saturday night was the place to be, music-wise, out on Brosius Road, when a talented troupe of performers, musicians–instrumentalist, vocalists, interlocutors and lame jokers, even–gave a lawn-seated crowd a great evening of entertainment, despite threatening weather, despite technical difficulties, despite competition from the fireflies/lightening bugs. The fragrance of insect repellent wafted about. They were just great. And they were, apparently, having the time of their lives doing it.

They did “oldies”, they did current stuff, they did numbers that I did not recognize but everyone else seemed to, at least judging by the amount of hootin’ and hollerin’ going on. They had vocalists (Way to go, Hallie…and that other guy), they have their own arranger (Now there’s a talent, no kidding), They have shirts (Get your orders in now), they have versatile and energetic players across the board who were definitely having a good time. They had a refreshment stand–just like Playhouse Square. They had folks out in the audience lighting up their phones and waving them in approval. Heckuva night; heckuva lot of talent; heckuva lot of fun.

Watch for their next production (A return to Garrettsville’s Got Talent?). See if they get bids to other entertainment venus–they have been on many football fields at halftime, could go on to do guest shots any number of places. They can be proud of themselves for making music their focus and not off-color anything; no bats were harmed in the production (Ozzy Osborne did not show up for a guest shot.)

The Thrill of the Ville might even be available for paying gigs in the ‘hood. Check them out…before they go back to school.
