Phyllis I. Ellenberger, 89 years of age, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Born in Lake Milton, Ohio on April 21, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Van and Garnet (McLeod) Simpson, Sr. A graduate of Windham High School, she then became a longtime Hiram area resident and a member of the Hiram Christian Church. Phyllis loved to ride her lawn mower and took great pride in maintaining the family property. To Phyllis, her “Lifetime work was raising her children and loving all of the grandchildren”. On November 26, 1949, she married Wally Ellenberger whose passing took place on September 2, 2012.
Preceding her in death also was her daughter Connie Ruffing, siblings Van Simpson, Jr., Robert Simpson, David Simpson, and Charles “Butch” Simpson. Phyllis is survived by daughters Phyllis (Ron) Mullett of Leavittsburg, Jennifer (James) Flower of Ravenna, Leta (Don) VanMetre and Beverly (Brian) Brown both of Garrettsville; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. No calling hours. A private funeral service will be held Tuesday March 2, 2021, at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255.
