As I have mentioned before, somebody out there in ComputerLand.Internet thinks that my name is REALLY Ivan and, therefore, I must be interested in “guy things” and messages. This means that I get some pretty interesting messages in my SPAM pages (there are lots of them); some having to do with topics like ED (erectile disfunction) ( Did that ever come up in those late-night discussions at slumber parties? Or others even further out?). Not parties which I was invited to, that’s for sure. Anyway, the latest one, which made me laugh, was–I kid you not–”WARNING : Your testicles are leaking!” Well–there’s a scare tactic if I ever heard one. These same people seem to have cottoned on to the fact that I have cats around here and are frequently mentioning abuses to be perpetrated upon some unfortunate felines. Who comes up with this stuff? And even more to the point, who replies to it? Can’t tell you how many items have appeared that are just nuts and leave me wondering if somebody out there actually does these bizarre things. Are they out walking around like regular people? Or are they holed up in their bedrooms someplace fantasizing. Hope I don’t know any of them. Hope I never find out.

The OFA (Old Farmer’s Almanac) shows February 1 as the date of the Full Snow Moon. Well, there’s a surprise. I looked; it was pretty bright, all right, shining down all of the white stuff we’ve still got on the ground. My brother out in Albuquerque is suffering through temps in the 60’s, poor guy.

February 2 is popularly known in the U.S. as Groundhog Day but skip ahead to February 5, which is St. Agatha’s Day, sporting a little snippet of wisdom, an aphorism, so to speak : “St Agatha is rich in snow.” BULLSEYE !

And keep your eye on February 9. The OFA lists it as National Pizza Day. Celebrate.

In rapid order then we are looking at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Day/ Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Shrove Tuesday/Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras),, Lunar New Year (China)–it’s the Year of the Horse, and finally, Ash Wednsday–beginning of Lent. Anybody else notice that the usual pre-Lenten goodies called “paczki”…actually pronounced “poonchkey”..started appearing way early this year? I guess if you’ve got a good excuse to sell jelly doughnuts, you just go with it.

And for all of you Muslims, Ramadan begins at sundown on the 17th.

Skunks mate around the 21st. No politicians’ names were mentioned.
