Peggy J. Long, 82, of Windham Township, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 12, 2023. She was born on July 22, 1940, in Hampton, TN, to the late Daniel Hicks and Mabel (nee White) Hicks-Matthews, who both lovingly raised Peggy with Mabel’s husband, John Matthews.
She moved to Windham in the 4th grade, and was a secretary for the Windham school psychologist, where she retired after over 30 years of service. Peggy was a lifetime Methodist, and a proud member of the Windham United Methodist Church, as well as the Eastern Stars. In her earlier days, Peggy enjoyed card nights with her friends and belonged on a bowling league at Sky Lanes. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Peggy will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Larry Long, with whom she was blessed to share over 62 years of marriage; children, Scott (Dyanna) Long and Kimberly (Gregory) Cowan; grandchildren, Stephanie (Sean) Brown, Matthew (Larissa) Long, and Jessica (Chris) Rader; great-grandchildren, Trenton, Brady, Kenslee, Emree, Grayson, McKinley, and Lincoln; brother, Doug Hicks; best friend, Janet Miller, as well as many nephews, nieces, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, and brother, Larry Hicks.
The family invited friends to honor Peggy for a visitation on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. A funeral service began at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M., with the Rev. Sandra Greenberg officiating. Peggy was laid to rest at Windham Township Cemetery.
