Hiram – Patrolman Dave Ovens has been selected at “Hiram Police Department Officer of the Year” by his peers for 2012. Ptl. Ovens has continually shown that he is willing to go above and beyond and has dedicated himself to serving as a mentor to the other officers of the Hiram Police Department. Ptl. Ovens is instrumental in the development and organization of Hiram’s community programs which he has partnered with AAA and serves as an educator to teen drivers in regards to safe driving habits. Ptl. Ovens is also an active instructor at Kent State University Police Academy.
“This is a reflection of the image that Ptl. Ovens reflects upon other members of the Hiram Police Department” Chief Ed Samec said. “Dave is always willing to help in any way that he can, not only in the law enforcement world, but Dave also is there for our officers in a personal level as well, I am proud of Dave and him being recognized by his peers.” Chief Samec added.
Also recognized by Portage County Chapter of MADD are Patrolman Brian Gregory and Corporal Al Gilbert for their dedication and efforts of making our roadways a safer place to travel. “Ptl. Gregory and Cpl. Gilbert have dedicated themselves to removing impaired drivers from the roadways; it is an honor to be recognized by MADD in this capacity.” Chief Ed Samec said.
